Orienteering (Mapping) 2:00:00 [1] 5.2 km (23:05 / km)

Working on revisions for Powder Mills map - my first effort at mapping. It went fairly well although I got hung up with some property lines (posted signs versus what the map shows). Hopefully the process will speed up with experience.

Orienteering race 1:15:24 [5] *** 7.4 km (10:11 / km)
spiked:8/12c

CNYO - Turkey-O @ Highland State Forest - Long Course. SPIKES. That is what I want for Christmas. I wasn't 100m into the course before I realized that every step was going to be tricky. Everything was very wet and although ice/snow wasn't an issue on the ground - it was coming down during the event. I had troubles on C1, not grasping the scale and although I had a pretty good line I was not on the trail I thought I was on. For the C5 leg I took the long way around on trails, going for the better footing (plus the white area on the map was no where to be found). C6 was probably my worst control. My initial attack was good, but the green slash limited low visibility and I couldn't read any fine contours on the hillside. Toward the end Gil and Wil caught/passed me, so I used their speed to push myself for a while (but only for 100m before they were gone). Still had a good time despite the weather - it is always enjoyable running on a new map. Actual distance run approx 9.2km

Orienteering (Sprint) 10:04 [4] ***
spiked:8/9c

CNYO - Turkey-O - Sprint. Mispunched C5. I had made up my mind by C3 that it was one of the same controls from the long course, but it was actually one reentrant/thicket removed from the control I went to. Careless.....
