ICO Meet - West Lafayette, IN

Running 1:03:00 [4] 7.33 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

Since Indiana Crossroads O-meet was cancelled, I went for a run around the Purdue Campus and around the west side of town. It is amazing how much things have changed sice I graduated. Even with coming back every 1-2 years the changes seem significant. Started the run south and east of campus and worked my way up around Ross Ade stadium and into the horiculture park where there were some nice open woods and good trails to run on. The most significant action on campus seemed to be qualifying/training runs for the Grand Prix. Trees were starting to bloom and the grass has been mowed here in Lafayette - but the temps today were no better than in Rochester.

Orienteering race 1:11:05 [4] *** 9.0 km (7:54 / km)

DVOA - Fox Chaser - Red Course Day #2 - I guess consciously leaving something in the tank yesterday paid off since I was able to run at a better pace. In looking at other scores is seemed that about 1/2 the Red group ran Sunday's course faster. I thought it might have been a bit more technical on Saturday, but not that much. Anyway, I thought I was really doing great through Control #12, where I wound up on the heels of another Red runner. We took different routes to #13, but the rest of the controls were somewhat tightly bunched and for 5 of the last 8 controls I was more or less right behind him. I found myself concentrating on keeping up with, and passing him rather than my route choices. Unfortunately the terrain/map didn't offer many risk taking opportunities.

I lost about a minute tying my shoes twice between #10 and #11.
