ROC - Mendon Ponds - Red - I left my trail shoes outside last night after the CNYO meet and they were soaked so I wore my stud shoes and it worked out nicely. The conditions were probably worse the yesterday at Hope Lake - cold, wet with snow cover. The course was primarily in the southern part of the park - which I enjoyed - since it is a less visited area on O-courses. I felt good but I completely botched two controls - #13 and #14. I left #12 with a 90 degree error and then bashed around in some green looking for a small clearing (which is where it was supposed to be). After wasting maybe 5 minutes I backed out to a trail junction which didn't look quite right and then and saw Steve blast right through the junction with a purpose. Uh oh, I am in the wrong area and he just found 13! I finally got it and then for good measure I mangled the approach to the next control and lost another 1-2 minutes. My compass work had better improve before next weekend. Actual distance run = 8.4 km

CNYO - Hope Lake - This was essentially the Blue course from the Hope-n-Holla A- meet last fall. Best guess is that there was a 10-minute improvement in times because the rough open was all matted down and maybe a 5-min disadvantage because of the snow cover. I had problems at 1 (as usual), 4, 6, and 15. The worst mistake was going from 5 to 6 where I missed the right reentrant and made a wide circle before getting back to the control. Total distance run was 7.7 km.
