| ROC Ski-O at Harriet Hollister - headed down with the entire family. The plan was for me to ski, while Kameron and the kids found lunch. Then Kameron would snowshoe while I found someplace to sled with the kids. It worked out pretty nicely. However, I only finished 2 of 3 maps on the Blue course and DNFed officially. I felt pretty decent toward the end, but any more and I would have been overdoing it. I had only one minor hiccup in navigation, where I backtracked a bit to get to a better route and one blown route. I am not quite sure what the better route was, but at 7 Eric was just a bit behind me and Nate and then as I pulled up to 8 Eric had punched and was well on his way to 9.
One other minor problem I had was snow sticking to my skis. Jim gave me some good advice on wax - and hopefully I will heed it. But, I am not too much of a gear guy and will probably forget about it by the next time I am out. (which might be a while with the way the snow is going around here). After skiing, I hoofed it back to the overlook clearing with the kids to sled and they had a pretty good time. Although the sledding fun is diminished when you have to worry about the ultra-steep incline and trees toward the bottom of the hill. Hopefully they will be on skis next year.

| I missed the Freezeroo this morning (someone has to watch the kids!) but I managed to get a long run in this afternoon. The past 11 days have been nice - I got 4 outside runs in during daylight hours - which is much more than normal for me. Hopefully, I can build in more training time this winter as we transition into a more normal schedule. | ||
| Note | ||
| I downloaded my log from 2007 and checked out some of my totals. I had 529 controls (including Ski-Os), ran in 32 events/races, and logged 244 running miles. The mileage includes trail running but does not include O-races. I only started logging in the middle of 2006 - so I can't compare the entire year, but if I compare the appropriate date ranges I had an increase in running miles, and a decrease in controls for 2007. I would have thought the reverse to be true - but the numbers tell the tale. My USOF Score went from 72 in 2006 (5 events) to 79.9 in 2007 (6 events)
It would be nice to have a goals section added as a future enhancement to the site (time to make my yearly donation) but until then a note will have to do. 2008 Goals: Running Miles: 300 Orienteering Events/Races: 35 Controls: 550 USOF Score: 85 (Red) An increase in orienteering will be hard since the weekends are already packed and I might only be able to get to one or two more regional meets. I think the mid-week running is where I have the most opportunity to improve. We will have to see if this approach will help me improve my score.
