Wow. I thought I had a 'average' run, but yet finished 16 minutes behind the leader. Maybe average is being too kind. Navigationally it was average, but physically - not so good. I had legs cramps throughout the week so I wanted to take it easy in the beginning so I had something at the end. I was careful on the early hills, but based on how well I felt this afternoon, I defnitely left something in the tank. And no cramping issues.
Navigationally - OK. I had problems at #2 - mistaking the major contour line for the 'top' of the plateau. So I went up a lot higher than I needed to. No problems until #8 where I drifted way to the left and wound up in view of the large ponds. At least I left myself a good attack of the trail. Took a direct line to #9, which left me going through several swamps. I also took a spill in one swamp - landing on a pine log pretty hard. Fortunately, I landed between the branches. I think the best route would have been going off line to the north and taking mostly trails.
Took the road most of the way to #11. Anyone else?
My worst mistake of the day actually occurred before I started. I was in such a hurry to get going to make it back to T's baseball game that I left w/o a clue sheet. This probably made me a bit more hesitant around some of the controls - but none more than #12. It really wasn't on much of a feature so I just wasn't sure w/o knowing the code. Oh well - punch and go!
It has been a while since I have run here and I forgot how challenging it was. Missed running the last two meets (either side) due to meet duties.
