CNYO Turkey-O Long - Last time I was here (2007?) the conditions were very similar. Low 20s and 4"-6" of snow. Snow was bad at the start and tapered off throughout - even showing some sun in the middle of the race. However it got nasty as I was leaving after and I-81 was a disaster.

Anyway...

#1 - direct line. Picked up Stina anad Gary's tracks once I hit the trail close to the control.
#2-#3- the lead in to the control was pretty easy, but coming out I stayed high - thinking I would attack #3 from a higher elevation. But the vegetation pushed me all over the place and it was a zig-zag. No signs of tracks for most of the leg to #3.
#4 - very open woods and well defined reentrants made this a pretty easy leg. Caught a view of Gary at the end of the leg
#5 - mostly a trail/road run but as I approached I wanted to take the first trail out of the clearing. Found a trail, but it turned out to me unmapped (I think) Fortunately it was parallel to the one I wanted and I popped out on the road pretty close to where I was planning.
#6 - Another long road/trail run to the corner of the trail system and then followed the correct re-entrant down the control
#7 - Up the wide open hill. Pretty easy to find with the trail system
#8 - Got lazy, missed the trails that allowed more of a direct line, got pulled way way off line , and paid for it with additional elevation
#9 - Due east line to the trails. Executed well
#10- Worst leg. Plan was to get to the biggest trail/road which was a straight shot to the control, but required I overshoot the direct line. It was a long straight shot with a lot of uphill. I was miserably cold and the snow was deep. Wanted to be somewhere else at the time. When Stina popped out of the control area as I was approaching I realized the it was a bad plan and it brought me down a bit more.
#11 - Was spent and played it safe with the trails. Coming in to the control I had to compete on the narrow trail hemmed in with the snow and the vegetation with 2 unleashed dogs. Was almost knocked down. It was OK since they were nice dogs.
#12 - Either the map was messed up or the control was on the wrong feature. (only 1 of 3 buildings mapped). But the light was at the end of the tunnel and it didn't mess me up too much.

Overall a pretty clean run. Lots of trails in the park make it pretty hard to set a long course. Would like to run a middle (in the spring) in this area sometime.

Splits were messed up. Hopefully they will get worked out and posted eventually.

Edit: Got the correct time entered. I have forgotten how more than 60 minutes of training/racing is entered. That says a lot, unfortunately.
