Orienteering race 1:10:00 [4] 6.8 km (10:18 / km) +64m 9:50 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Green

Dauset Trails Night-O, although I opted for a 5:15pm daylight start/run. Started to rain almost immediately after I started. Which naturally means my glasses fogged up and made it very difficult to read the map. I gotta figure out something to keep that from happening, it's very frustrating. The redeeming factor is it kind of forces me to read the map once and memorize the leg because there's no reading while running possible! Disappointing that the rain took some of the starch out of the evening. It was a fun course - Score-O with 25 controls along 5.7km straight line distance. Time limit was 3 hours or 9pm, whichever came first. I managed to hit all the controls in 70 min even with the rain/glasses handicap. The running actually felt pretty good, kept moving the whole time (except when stopping to map read). Thought I would feel tired from the week's activities but really didn't.
Last start was 7:45 - there were couple dozen people who did the actual in-the-dark night-O. I hung around to help pick up controls. Not much fun going out in the dark and rain. How the real night-O'ers did so well impresses me. Although given the high beam headlamps they had it must make a nice difference compared to my pitiful flashlight.

Bicycling 1:52:00 [3] 24.3 mi (4:37 / mi)

Rode at Stome Mountain. Three loops on the outer loop around the mountain. Another beautiful day, great for bicycling. Felt pretty good riding. Went with Pam, Duffy and Guy so there was lots of stopping, regrouping, starting and generally messing around. Went to Refuge Coffee afterwards. Talked to the founder/owner while there. What an extremely worthwhile place.
Weighed myself for the first time on 6-10 months. Seems that I've lost 2-3 lbs. Don't think that's a good thing. With the weight training and power yoga I was hoping to gain a couple pounds. :-(

Orienteering (woods/trail running) 1:15:00 [4] 6.0 km (12:30 / km) +260m 10:16 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Green

Sweetwater Creek: Re-ran the Red course from last Sept. Woods is noticably more open and the weather was 20 degrees cooler (70 vs 90). So I was disappointed I wasn't appreachably faster. :-( Running felt a little tired from the past few days, but...

Tried my new pair of VJ Falcon 6 shoes for about 100m on the road at Sweetwater. They seem to fit fine. Didn't want to wear them in the woods yet in case I do need to return them.

Orienteering (hanging ribbons) 3:26:06 [1] 5.06 mi (40:44 / mi) +150m 37:18 / mi
shoes: VJ Falcon Green

Hanging ribbons at FDR for my meet there next month. Absolutely beautiful day - sunny, mid 60s. Great day for a nice walk in the woods. Didn't see anyone else in trhe woods all day.

Went to Subway for a sandwich afterwards. Asked for whole wheat bread toasted. The clerk then asked if I wanted tuna fish before I said anything else. Apparently tuna fish eaters are the only people who ask for their bread to be toasted before putting anything on it.

My new pair of orienteering shoes arrived today, VJ Falcon 6 (Blue). Haven't had a chance to try them on yet - can't wear them indoors with the metal spikes.

Orienteering race (Dauset Trails Meet) 56:54 [5] 5.4 km (10:32 / km) +125m 9:27 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Green

Beautiful fall weather. Had a very pleasing run. Lost about 1 min twice. But I am very pleased with how well I kept moving. Controls were used yesterday for a JROTC meet so the courses were a bit on the easy side, e.g. controls very close to attack points. But that just made it more fun.

Orienteering (pick-up controls) 1:03:00 [1] 2.22 mi (28:23 / mi)

Pick up controls after the Dauset Trails meet. Great day for a walk in the woods.
