Ran the draft Blue course at Sweetwater Creek. Only got to control 18, then ran the trail back in as it was getting pretty late and I wasn't running very well anymore anyway. Course seems pretty good. A couple controls are perhaps a bit of a dogleg right at the control (i.e. for about 20-30m coming in and out of the control), depending on your route selection. Don't think I'll worry about that too much. I wasn't feeling particualrly spunky, so I don't feel like I was putting miuch effort into it when I was running. Gratifying to see the pace was so good nonetheless (10:15 min/km according to garmin).
Tried my new garmin Forerunner 235 GPS watch. I still have a lot to figure out about how to use it, e.g. how to take and then display control splits, and how to display the route on my iphone. But so far it seems like I'll like it.
Also tried my new VJ MAXx shoes. Not as happy with them as I had hoped. The fit around the ankle seems a little off - the tongue doesn't come up far enough and so it felt like it was rubbing the front of my foot (fortunately it wasn't). One day later the outside of my left ankle has a sore spot from rubbing. They're heavier than the VJ Falcon shoes. They don't feel good while contouring on step hillsides and they didn't do particularly well on dried leaves, i.e. didn't prevent slipping. Seemed comfortable while running on trails though, so hopefully they will do fine for weekday training.
