Orienteering 1:50:00 [2] 7.71 mi (14:16 / mi)
ahr:136 max:167

Training day at Forest Meadows, put on by Swampfox. It was two ~5km green courses, which I chose to do back to back via a map exchange. I had concerns about my ankle, as besides the Foxrun race I've done no off trail running, so its strength was questionable. Turns out the ankle was fine, it was my left knee and Achilles that were more of an issue. The knee started hurting after about 4 controls or so, and it was painful when going down steep hills as this causes me to bend the knee a lot. Haven't felt an issue with it since last week, so I didn't think it would be an issue. It made me run even slower than planned. O'ed pretty well, certainly didn't have the focus as if was a race and was running hard. Messed up one on the second course pretty bad; turns out, Swampfox made the exact same mistake (a map problem?).

Trail Run 1:01:00 [1] 14.96 mi (4:05 / mi)

Rode out Rt 34 trail to look at some new paving around J-Jones to see if it is roller ski worthy. It may be, I'll give it shot at some point. Felt tired from the day before I think, hence a low HR.

Trail Run 22:00 [4] 3.77 mi (5:50 / mi)
ahr:174 max:185

Running club. 7, 4, 7, 4 min. Felt good, but paces were certainly not overly awe inspiring to me. But thought I would be less good given I haven't done intervals in three weeks. I was only a bit ahead of Dave, and a new dude, who apparently is starting at UNC, was a ways ahead on the first three, but I crushed him on the 4th, which felt good, but collectively I'm sure he was faster. Left Achilles hurt a bit on the cool down.

Cyclo-X 1:04:00 [1] 14.82 mi (4:19 / mi)

Didn't sleep well, so just did an easy ride around the roller ski roads to try to come up with the best loop in terms of safety, continuous skiing, and good pavement. I think I've identified a near 15km loop around Reservoir Rd area, the Glenmere area offers little so may be dropped from the standard ski. Need to check out the SW of campus block.

Roller Ski Classic 1:05:00 [1] 8.97 mi (7:15 / mi)
ahr:130

Busted out the roller skis for the first time this year. There's two newly paved roads in the Reservoir Rd. block, got the time I did without doing everything. It's good I have nicely paved roads, but they don't interconnect well, so it's a lot of out and back and downhills leading to stop signs. This causes a lot of coasting, stopping, and turning around. Overall, not simulating skiing very well as I get a 30 sec. break at least once every 5 min., but I guess it's better than not being able to roller ski at all like it was 4 or 5 years ago. Skiing definitely worked the injured ankle a bit, I'm sure the tightness/pain I felt was good... stretching it out...

Mt. Bike 1:30:00 [1] 18.0 mi (5:00 / mi)
ahr:122

The dark curtain of the school year is upon me. It will be a struggle to train due to lack of time and day light hours, and immense exhaustion and grumpiness. One week left, but the dark curtain is already descending. Rt. 34 trail to J-Jones, a bunch of laps there, then over to homestead, just a few laps there, and back on Reservoir. Everything felt fine.

Note

ONA came today. The cover looked mighty familiar... Yup, I took that photo, plus a few others on p. 1 and 7, but I did not take the one attributed to me on p. 6.
