Red course at White Ranch (6 km straight line). Did 1300' of elevation gain on the course. Physically very demanding, and few spots allowed fast running, or running at all (steep up and steep down are about as fast). It was fun and I knew without some actual running parts, it was possible that it could be a competitive day. Temps was around 40sF and fog, which added additional challenge as often I only got 30-40 meter max of good visibility, which I think led to me going astray a few places. Going to 1 I couldn't see the trail continued to the other trail because the line was right on top of it, so I cut off to pick up the other trail, which I didn't need to do. I was pretty cautious, which was the approach for the whole day. Going to two I counted re-entrants and didn't worry about the rocks so much, ended up low of the control but saw it. Going to 5, because of the fog, I couldn't be sure what rocks were what, so ended up a bit high, but I didn't goof, making the direct route work out, despite a lot of walking (I debated if the trail route was better). Going to six the green in the area wasn't as clear as I thought it would be but guessed right when I should cut in and get the control. Going to 7, again, couldn't get a sense of where I was and ended up too low. Going to 8 I was a bit unfocused, could have done that more directly, the rest were fine. I really burned it going to the finish, I figured if anyone was close, I could put 30 sec or more on them on that climb, almost went too far left, but saw the rock luckily. I checked results after Viking came in, he was ahead at 12 by 7 sec, and I passed him on the finish climb, so it was a barn burner... Legs were jelly at end.
