kayaking 1:03:00 [3]

Race time 59:58 - 10k
From new norfolk bridge down to Boyer and back. Nice to see a different part of the derwent for a change! It was blowing a fair bit so a fast run down and a battle back up. I was happy to hang onto the back of Andy Maver for the first 5 k but couldn't keep it up after the turn into the wind and current. Made a concerted effort to get back onto his wash (paddled 30 hard strokes) but the moment I got there I just didn't have enough left to hang on so dropped immediately back off again. not sure what lesson to take away from that!

Held off a guy called Rod who was huffing and puffing behind me on the way back. After we finished I was chatting to him about the race and he said - oh well at least I was 3rd girl. and I said 'huh?' and he said, 'well first Jodi, then you, then me' Now I'm assuming he's using self de-preciating humour here - cos I don't think he is physiologically a girl or ever was. So in fact he was inadvertently being quite insulting - was he saying he was so hopeless that he was a girl ? I dunno - I spent the drive home wondering about it - I'm a girl and I do pretty well in the multisport races thanks Rod. odd.
