Orienteering 15:49 [3]
Orienteering race from Domain Athletics centre. It was supposed to be a joint venture with Tasmanian Athletics so it started and finished in the middle of the track at the start of a track & field meet with the aim of getting the athletes to have a go.
Then the plan was that the orienteers would run the invitational mile held later in the evening. In the end there were 9 orienteers running the mile and only 2 proper athletes .
The Mile race resulted in a state record being set. Needless to say it was not set by me. unless there is some category for 'untrained elderly lady who never runs on a track', in which case I am state champion. Zali and Jett ran too - Jett ran past me with about 20 metres to go, and Zali finished just after me. It was very painful but I'm glad I did it.
I think the orienteers put in a better showing than the athletes - 40 orienteers did the course, then we outnumbered the athletes in the mile race, while only about 6 athletes did the orienteering.
