kayaking 45:00 [3]

I was supposed to be focusing on technique but I was really focusing on the nice views and impossibly glassy conditions. I was also busy congratulating myself on walking out the door from work at 3:05, scootering to the car, driving home, getting changed, putting the kayak on the roof, driving to the beach and getting into the water before 3:55.

Running 48:00 [3]

I'm still trying to run as much as possible at the moment. Today was on the new Cascade Track from behind the brewery up towards the lenah valley and all those mountain tracks. The new track was great - but it was all uphill (as expected) so I did 25 minutes up - to the 2nd bridge on the myrtle valley track, then a very lazy 23 minutes down - it was a little slippery.

kayaking race 1:30:00 [3]

My first race - basically from Huonville, down to Franklin, through the egg island canal then back to Huonville. the conditions varied from gusty head on wind and horizontal rain, to sunny (of course).

It was longer than I have ever kayaked (14km or 16 km?) so I was pretty completely buggered by the end but happy with the fact that I finished. Results aren't out yet but I think I was somewhere in the middle of the chumps division (3).

kayaking 1:00:00 [3]

Missed my night session last night due to being Norf so did it in Browns River when I got back today (whilst giving the impression to work I was still en route).

4 x Bridge to bridge with 3-4 mins rest:

10:15 up-river, up-wind
9:47 down river, down-wind with resistor
10:05 up river, wind swinging
9:48 down river, wind swinging.

Focused on keeping my chin up and rotating upper body. Browns river was especially brown today - and there was lots of water coming down it - it must have rained heavily in the last few days.

Running 30:00 [3]

shuffle along the alum cliffs - couldn't go all the way to the end as I had to get to my kayaking group lesson

kayaking 30:00 [3]

kayaking group lesson - was on water for more like 90 minutes but only 30 actually paddling I recon! the lesson was useful for technique but the weather was nice and the Derwent was mirror still so I kind of wished I'd just gone for a solo paddle instead rather than up and back drills. Still - it's all good.

Running 35:00 [3]

Peter Murrell reserve.
lordy my legs are not into running at the moment - luckily I had to return the car to jon so couldn't do my normal longer loop. need to do a bit more leg stuff I'm thinking. Now I've got my ankle op booked my ankle is causing me no problems at all. might make it my mission to run so much I stuff it up just to confirm there is purpose in the massive expense and inconvenience of going to melbourne.

Swimming 30:00 [3]

another quick swim while jett did his lesson. This time I did a program - with various sprinting laps and things. felt sufficiently 'worked out' by the end of it. planned to go for a run but after having a go at a 'pump track' on my bike felt a bit buggered so spent the arvo working on Jamies birthday cake.

Swimming 30:00 [3]

kayaking 1:15:00 [3]

Night Kayaking Group - it was a full moon so very pretty but rather cold - it was ok on the water but getting off the water, hosing down the kayak and getting going was the worst part with everything wet. The air temp was 4.4 degrees when we finished.
Did lots of interval sprints tonight. very good training.

went to get the kayak off the roof at 9pm (after I'd spent an hour in a hot shower) and it already had a layer of ice on it.

Orienteering race 13:52 [3]

How Humiliating - I got the dreaded 'get started using this log' message!

This was the Tas Sprint Champs - I ran my legs off and coughed out a lung when I finished. Was happy with result.

Tennis 55:00 [3]

When i start putting in tennis you know I'm getting really desperate.

Sunday Jun 5, 2011 #

Orienteering race 39:30 [3]

Waterworks - went without my compass which made me nervous on all the diagonal down and uphill legs. Still was happy with an ok run that positioned me at the top of a busy group of people in the 39-42 minute mark.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Run around the dam again and up the hill to check control sites for next week.

Running 46:00 [3]

alum cliffs. today was such a beautiful windless, cloudless sunny day that a photo could not even do it justice.

kayaking (night) 1:00:00 [3]

Whilst I was tempted to go out during the day as it was such lovely weather I saved my arms for my first ever group session - at night! I was really nervous that I would be the biggest chump on the water but happily the session had about 6 guys and 3 girls and we girls were all really evenly paced.

Had to do a 15 minute warm up, then 2 x 10 minute races with a small rest in between, then 30 strokes hard 30 strokes easy for 2 blocks of about 8 minutes then a warm down. It was my first ever speed/quality session and it is clear that I need to work on steering when I am trying to go fast as I zig zagged my way all around the course.
