Brrrr... that was cold. From little sandy bay to bridge and back. Particularly cold on my hands on the way up with the headwind.

just checked the bom. it was 6.7 degrees when I started paddling and 9.8 by the time i finished.

Technique stuff at kingston beach and browns river. REally didn't want to go out but forecast tomorrow looks awful for paddling. As it turned out it was calm and lovely down at the beach anyway so I'm really glad i did.

With Mark and Bob. Left home at 8.30 and got back at 12 but to be fair there was a fair amount of a) resting and b) stopping to work out where to go next. So I've logged a generous 3 hours

From home to Margate up Van Morey road then through hills to start of Tramway track. After that down and up and down through to sandfly, longley leslie vale, some hill near summerleas then a lovely cruise down to summerleas road and home. legs survived ok - none of the hills were massive.

Reverse commute leg 1. no big tailwind but I did have a road cyclist to chase on the way up the Bonnet which kept me going.

Jon didn't seem to think that 12 degrees and gale force winds were enough of an excuse to not train. Obviously paddling was out so it was back on the bike again. So together we cycled from kingston up to fern-tree (via summer leas road) then towards neika for a bit on the pipeline, then we dropped back down to the bottom of summer leas via Westringia track, which until now I had only heard talk of.

For Jon it was a pretty slow climb but I am stoked I made it up to fern-tree . 47 mins to the junction of summer leas and huon road. It was sleeting from the saddle so we were both freeeeezing by the time we made the top.

Westringia track was steep and rocky at the top but then flattened out into some of the best single trail I've ridden around hobart - it was fun. On the one hand I wanted it to keep going, on the other my hands were numb and my legs were freezing so I was keen to get home!

Going to celebrate my achievements with the footy and ugg boots this afternoon.

From cornelian bay, north to just past bowen bridge, then turned. had mirror calm on way out, steady southerly on way back. all good though.

reverse commute - from mum and dad's, home to kingston. now have to psych myself up to cycle back in to pick up car and kids at 3pm. Hopefully the roaring northerly will be replaced by a sea breeze to blow me back up there..

Sadly still northerly wind but this only really mattered going through taroona.

Also my paddling nemesis swept past me on her road bike just as I started up the hill (luckily she's not my cycling nemesis). Even though we are quite friendly she didn't opt to slow down and have a chat (I was on my mountain bike with slicks and no bike shoes, she was fully decked out on her roadie). She's obviously still smarting from being trounced at Summer Survival.

Ok so my own course only took me 38 minutes. But i'm counting the 2km walk to start which I had to do twice, and also jogging after Zali on her own 2km class. fun had by all..
