Did the same loop in North West Bay that I did a few weeks ago . This time I deliberately didn't take my camera so I would just have a steady paddle. Not surprisingly without all the photo stops and going onto conning ham beach it was a fair bit faster. Lovely conditions, saw penguins and seals.

Because it was so cold yesterday morning I waited until 11.45 to cycle today but it was still only 6 degrees.

Nice ride though. wore an extra layer so stayed comfortable (unlike yesterday).

NIght Paddling Group.
I got the message that my boat was fixed so I drove out to The End of The Earth (aka Goodwood) to pick it up only to find it was all locked up and closed when I got there at 4pm. So I had to drive to the DSS and ring someone who kept their boat in the shed and borrow it - turned out to be a great option as it was pretty choppy and I was in a v8 - so a more stable version of my boat - PERFECT for the conditions. yay. A v8 is what Paul should get.

4 x long sprints (3-4 mins), then 2 x short (1-2) mins

brr... from Lynton Ave up to fern tree - was going to go down via westringia but met rob on his way down ridgeway (he was rugged up like an eskimo) and he said it was likely to have heaps of icy bark, so instead I rode out to end of singleish trail of the pipeline and then turned around and came back down summerleas road. it was COLD. I'm sure Canberra people have this all the time but when I got home I couldn't' wash down my bike cos the water in the hose was frozen!

As the BOM promised mirror flat conditions in the afternoon I drove up to sandy bay to paddle before picking up the kids but I found it to still be a bit windy and there was too much rebound in sandy bay for me to get in (with the KT1 deathtrap) so I drove around to marieville esplanade which was fine.
From there I paddled up and under bridge then back - I wanted a solid 1 hr paddle so was happy. It was perfectly calm when I finished of course..

Procrastination meant this session was a bit short but that probably gave me the inspiration to make it more worthwhile (since I'd gone to the effort and all) so I did a lap up to the bridge doing technique practise then a short rest, then 'sprinted' back to the other bridge 9.16, then did two shorter intervals up to first bend and back 2.45 & 2.15 (fairly large current!). Then practised some starts. Then rushed back to car, home then off to take kids to swimming lessons..

The weather is making indoor swimming look desirable again . did 500 warmup, 400 alternating kick board and backstroke, then 500 to finish trying to really stretch and get faster towards the end. Had to hurry out of pool to get kids straight after.

Huon race. Had a fast flowing trip down the river, then a battle back up to Huonville. Went fine in the KT1 although I never managed to hook onto the back of the race pack in my division so was travelling a little slower from the start. happy enough with result in freeeeeeezing conditions.

Dragged the KT1 off its rack and went for a paddle in browns river just to make sure it was going to be ok for the race on sunday. It's a lot less comfortable than my Epic but it's fine.

since i was out in the northern suburbs delivering my boat to the boat repairers I took my bike and went for a ride on the newly re-routed sections of the north south track. it was WAY better for the likes of me. yay.

3 x 2.2km loops with a couple of minutes in between..

12.05, 11.58, then on the third one I stacked my boat Bob Clifford style ( http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=... ) onto a concrete block just off wrest point. The block is usually obvious above the waterline but tonight the tide was quite high so it was only just visible (in the daylight).

So in the dark rounding the point for the third time I thought I might be a bit close to where I guessed it was so steered to the left only to then go straight up and onto it (if I had stayed where I was i would have passed cleanly through in the channel between it and the sea wall). bum bum bum.

Will need to get boat repaired before going back in the water. This is going to cost 000s but it cost bob clifford millions so I guess I should be grateful..

oh yeah - straight after I refloated myself, a paddler who started in the group after me did exactly the same thing. ouch. we all knew it was there.. sigh.

Couldn't face the actual water today so did my pyramid session indoor.
3 x 1,2,3,2,1min with 5 mins in between..

Felt guilty about the indoor kayaking so went for a run outside. Alum Cliffs - told myself I only had to do 20 mins but managed an easy 44 so that was good.

usual loop around peter murrell. had to stop due to mechanical problem (chain dropped off then got jammed (really jammed) between the back suspension thingy and the frame) so had to call jon for some advice. Got myself back on the road in the end so happy about that.

Despite the dodgy weather I convinced myself (in the end) to go out for a 1hr steady paddle before it got dark. WAter was fine - bit of southerly swell bouncing off the alum cliffs so kept a bit wide to avoid the rebound.

Paddled from kingston beach to almost taroona high and back.

Loop of the Tangara Trail on south arm. mostly off road and a bit muddy in parts but was pretty nice. it's a bit of a drive to get to it from our place though (30+mins) so might not be doing it that frequently..

Opportunistic swim while Jett blasted his friends at a Laser Zone party up in the big town.

paddle group. 6 x 4ish minute loop with 1-2 minutes rest. it was a little choppy outside of the marina so I was able to hang with the faster people in my group for a little bit longer than usual. felt like a pretty good session.

there are plenty of girls in tassie who could easily beat me (most of the juniors down to Arabella Phillips) but none of them entered w21..

Kate Reed Reserve in Launceston. The trails were often rocky but not like north south shudder to the bone rocky, but smooth with rocky features. It was really good practise for going up and down and through stuff.

Sprint event 1 - UTAS launceston. I think events under 3k around uni campuses are my speciality.

usual peter murrell. an effort to get out there in the cold windy conditions so good on me for that. also finally installed cheapo bicycle computer and measured the loop - 17k.

kayaking 55:00 [3]

Paddle Group. Moderate pace down to taroona then 2 efforts back, first to prossers, then 2nd back to DSS. By the middle of the 2nd I was buggered and it was choppy and I was sure I had dropped off the back of my little race group (hardly anyone had lights so it was hard to tell where anyone was). But when I got back 3 of the other 4 people in my group paddled in behind me so that was cool..

Also, as I approached the DSS a round mooring buoy popped out of the water right in front of me.. then it breathed a big snorkelly breath and dived under the water with a splash and disappeared completely. After asking if anyone else saw it, it turned out they had seen a seal in the area when we started out, so that's what it must have been.

Same ridgeway - ferntree - westringia - summerleas loop that I did last week. It's cold outside so I was happy to get some sunshine along the way.

I'm enjoying westringia more and more - the steep section is even getting a little bit fun and less worrying! Still pushing through the creek and up the hill on the other side though - can't see that changing for a while!

Nice long swim, cos I felt guilty about not having paddled on account of how the weather has been so yuk.

zoomy ride around peter murrell, was normal slug speed up the hills, but pushed the downhills such that my back wheel slid out a couple of times in the sandy bits. all good though. ..
