kayaking 1:05:00 [3]

Another sunny day so a great opportunity to kayak - especially as I have a day off.
Did the same as Sunday but also practised some 'self rescue' - i.e. getting back on the ski after a capsize. Did this under the watchful eye of all the lunchtime people sitting in their cars and gazing out to sea. It went surprisingly well - will be a different story in actual tippy conditions (the conditions which tip you out in the first place) but at least I know I can do it theoretically.

Orienteering 31:56 [3]

Run on new map at Peter Murrell Reserve - so very close by. Lots of fun but didn't have a perfect run so got beaten by a minute by lots of people!

Kayak from kingston beach towards blackmans bay - when the chop made me too nervous I turned and surfed into browns river to do a bridge to bridge lap and work on technique. My new boat is beautiful and it loves to surf - it is really responsive steering wise and stays straight on the waves(as opposed to turning side on and tipping over). I love it but I'm going through a new learning curve for the stability side of things out at see. I wish I had a paddling buddy.

Crash and burn. Left for work at 7.30, didn't get home until 10.30 after AutoDownload orienteering seminar. couldn't get the trainer out as it was too noisy and couldn't face going to gym.

Livelys Bog. Tired but happy to have a smooth run with no mistakes. Very happy my ankle lasted the three days. Had a fun trip

Orienteering race 22:09 [3]

UTAS - NOL event - 2.9km. Dragged my sluggish butt around the course - really enjoyed it - 25 controls. Missed a couple as they were tricky/hidden so lost maybe a minute all up but had a fun fun time.

pretty terrible half hour jog just to prove I still could after this weeks illness and my rolled ankle last week. would have rather been kayaking but couldn't squeeze it in today.

Prob only just 30 minutes as went from Casino to work in the morning , then work to sandown in the afternoon. Couldn't will myself to go all the way home so stopped at chemist for cough medicine then got a lift with jon the rest of the way.

Stroll from south end of Kingston beach just to confirm I'm still alive. Went to Boronia beach where the only footsteps were mine and a wallaby's.

Had to leave my sick-couch to meet Jo and Miriam for a lovely walk through the snow from the springs. Was really nice. Am getting flu and it's freezing outside though so not sure what tomorrow will bring.

Had planned to do the usual 30 then zip off to the pool for a swim - but then I decided since I wasn't otherwise going up to the city (normally I combine a swim with kid pickup or something) that my time was better spent in the gym. So did 30 on the bike, 20 on the cross trainer and rowed a couple of kays. felt sufficently sweaty and stinky by the end.

There was a dusting of snow on the mountain but I was quite cosy in my kayak with wetsuit legs on - despite the north westerly chop sloshing water over me from time to time.

Running 45:00 [3]

Just as I was enjoying running on the soft surface of peter murrell reserve I rolled my ankle - so the situation is either my ankle is stuffed because of the original problem and I can't do anything, or when that is temporarily less acute, I roll it because I pronate so MUCH on that side nowadays because of years of hobbling around when the ankle is inflamed that I can't place my foot flat and there's only about 1 degree of difference between a foot plant and a rolled ankle. it sucks.

Nice to be back on the water. From south end of kingston beach I went south towards blackmans bay - after 10 or so minutes I got a bit nervous with the chop going one way and the swell going the other so I turned around and then kayaked up to the north end of the beach, took on the waves and surfed into browns river. Then up to bridge and back.

Soccer 25:00 [3]

Backyard soccer one on one against Toby (7) the soccer playing boy wonder. Took my best game to beat him 3-2. And if the goals had been a foot higher I would have been toasted by his long range shots. Am covered in sweat. I was wearing gum boots.

Was a nice day today but aside from a couple of hours spent moving mulch from Mulch Mountain to various parts of the garden I spent it planning courses and doing orienteering stuff.

Had plans to take advantage of the windless day and get out for a paddle but Jett was sick so I had to content myself with hauling 2 cubic metres of mulch around the garden and a late night trip to the gym.
