Training Log Archive: Cakewoman

Usual run south from Marieville Esp, up to constitution dock (via syd/hobart finishing line) then down to Blackmans bay. Jon beat me this time as there were only light winds until taroona high, then it was completely flat so had to rely on paddle power.

peter murrell reserve again. had plans to paddle but car was attached to trailer for most of the day..

FINALLY! Back home from SA and out on my bike for 70 minutes at peter murrell reserve. love my new bike.

evening paddle up and down browns river. All the ducks were putting themselves to bed.

RAce. conditions were crazy with a wild southerly so race plan was to paddle as a group to Blinking Billy, turn, then race back to dss via CSIRO. Have no idea how long the actual race was but it was fun.

Wet wet cycle to work. Anticipated the bucketing rain so took off every item of clothing that wasn't necessary before I left home (so it could stay dry in my bag). Plan worked well but it might take the good people of sandy bay a while to recover.

A wet paddle. and not just from the sea. Again it was raining - there was so much stuff in the water - I can see why people are advised not to swim after heavy rain. I pulled an afl ball out of the sea and avoided all manner of logs and sticks and stuff. There was a dolphin out there with me too but I don't like dolphins so I left it in the water.

On way into water I trod fair and square on one of those big horrible starfish. that did not make me happy - it still gives me the creeps when I think about it.

Lovely paddle from Kingston beach down around tinderbox then up into north west bay and over to dru point. It was a bit lumpy from kingston to tinderbox, then we had the swell behind us around the point, then it was mirror flat in north west bay. very nice.

commute

afternoon paddle with ian. bit over the southerly sea breeze as we paddled south but only made it as far as blinking billy before we had to turn as the waves were getting a bit beyond us. came back to DSS and did some technique practise and a few sprints to rack up the ks to 10.

commute. napolean st still sucks but not nearly so much. slick tyres help but probably balanced out by flat pedals as I've moved clips to new bike.

beautiful morning paddle from sandy bay up western shoreline to bridge then straight back down the middle of river with slight tailwind back to sandy bay. 45 mins or so up, 35 back. sweet. attempted to take some photos but camera battery flat.

Double commute today as I had to go to watch the christmas assembly at lunchtime. On the way I happened across a car accident (actually it had probably happened 5 or 10 minutes earlier) involving dad! The car will be a write-off but luckily no-one was injured and it wasn't dad's fault. he was being well treated by the teachers from the school opposite and apparently got lots of cups of tea and some fruit salad.

not too windy for a change so went out from Kingston beach, down past blackmans bay, north to alum cliffs then finally gave myself some light downwind fun and scooted back into the beach.

Commute. My clunky GT Avalanche 2.0 is now my commuting bike so it has slick tyres and regular pedals.

lap of mtb race course before had to race off to a paddling thing. if I was competing properly I would have had to do 4.
have new bike (Giant Anthem X1). so have no excuses.

went to a come-and-try it paddle day thingy thinking that I'd get 2 on-water sessions with world class paddlers (as advertised). wasn't quite the case so a bit of a waste of time for me given the other major activity of the day was trying out different boats - which is all well and good but I'm not in the market for a new boat so until I snap the ski in half by backing the car into a tree,it's not really that useful an event.

From Marieville esp, north to constitution dock, then downwind (and down wave) to blackmans bay with the wind picking up the whole time. Had fantastic surfs and heaps of moments where I sat back and zoomed down the front of a wave.. Arrived at blackmans bay 15 minutes before jon did so went in and out (for extra surfing practise) a few times but came unstuck turning on the 3rd time and spent 3 or so mins in the water trying to get back in as the steep side swell meant I'd get really close then fall out again. got it in the end and zoomed back to beach and practically had to sit on the boat on the beach to stop it blowing away while i waited for jon. so glad I have a surf ski and not a kayak

shortish session tonight - with 4 intervals around the docs. conditions were choppy.

paddled from dss to taroona high and back. coming back was fun fun fun with some fun rides downwind.

This was just a demo ride of a dual suspension womens specific mountain bike but I'm putting it in to avoid a colour reset. Am feeling better today after almost a week of sickness. hopefully back on water tomorrow but weather is really crap as well.
bike was great, but model was called 'Lush' . urk. and it was actually a bit cramped front to back so I won't be getting it but i WILL be getting dual suspension.
