short spin around lake rose berry - very pretty.

from cabin almost to dove lake and back. turns out it's quite undulating and my beloved bike needs a service as the gears are a bit out at the moment

quick paddle in Dove Lake. Water was amazingly warm. I've borrowed a little 'dagger' rudderless kayak but it's so sensitive to over steering with my paddle that it's like trying to paddle a swivel chair across the room without it twisting at all.

Sandy Bay Regatta. Entered Div 2 which would have meant two laps from beach to taroona high and back but after the start and not making much progress into the headwind (It was a strong and lumpy southerly) I decided to do the div 3 course instead which was 2 shorter laps . I was not the only one in div 2 to revise down to div 3 after the start and turn at the closer buoy -I recon about 5 of us did - in the mean time, all the actual div 3 starters pulled out due to the conditions. It really was a battle upwind, then hairy downwind.

Anyway - the good news is I won, which means cold hard $$$. But really I know I was just the first of the pikers. Having said that, if I had stayed in div 2 I'd still be out there.

drove down and followed green trails . excellent fun.

epic ride by myself. was exhausted. awesome though

lovely ride with jon & paul. bailed out and left them to do some extra hours. bit stoppy-starty as we worked out the trails but should be smooth sailing from here on in.

this is loosely described as training -- it was a 3 hour tour but most of it was drifting about - but i did have dead weight in the front oft he boat (jett) and the boat was about a metre wide and handled like a floating car.

easy 5 k walk in pouring rain. hardest bit was keeping kids moving

in the Glenbervie forest - sadly a bit un-maintained and the map was difficult to follow so I spent most of the time on the 4wd tracks which weren't too bad I guess.

I got back 10 minutes after the adventure forest thing opened (see blog for details) by which time Zali was well past champing at the bit to get there, she nearly dragged me by my sweaty shoelaces straight over to it.

rest of the commute i intended to do yesterday. was quite fun.

Last paddle for a while probably. Went from kingston south past blackmans bay for 35 minutes then turned around. it was pretty windless but there was swell rolling in from various directions.

very small commute after very big work day. Had planned to cycle all the way home but it was 6.30 and jonno was single handedly hosting a girls only slumber party for Zali - so stopped at mum's and grabbed dad's car instead!

afternoon paddle with Ian from DSS. pretty cruisy. gusty winds but flat water. need to do some sharpening up before summer survival race in FEb!

from sandy bay to bridge and back.

when I drove past wrest point the water was mirror flat. When I put my boat in it was the tiniest bit breezy. By the time I got to the bridge (45 mins later) it was picking up a little from the north but still flat. 5 minutes after I turned it was insane, with 50kph gusts and whitecapped waves. By the time I got back to the shore it was all that and rain that wasn't quite hail but almost was. The river was all sea-misty from the water beign blown around. Had quite a few hairy moments but stayed in and managed to battle my way diagonal to the wind and waves to get back into the little bay (had to talk to myself out loud about what I needed to do to make it!). phew. was glad i had all my safety stuff (epirb, phone, meusli bar) on board as I was thinking I might end up on the iron pot.

Commute.
My original plan was to ride all the way in from kingston as I don't have to drop kids off at school at the moment but I left 15 minutes later than planned then discovered my gears didn' t change - so had to come back and have a shower while jon tinkered to make it all usable, then drove to mums and rode from there so I got a short ride in. Then I planned to go in a twilight paddle race in the afternoon but I got stuck at work until it was too late to go home (via mums to get car) and get boat and come back. So that was a fail too. sigh.

Jon dropped me off at the springs so I could have another go at the north-south track and extension down to tolosa street. On my dually it was completely different to the last time- still struggled with the narrowness of the second 10 minutes, but didn't notice the bumpiness as much which was what forced me to throw a tantrum the last time. It was fun as. Still can't get down steep hairpin bends though - need to get some guts up.

From huonville south down to channel through Egg Island, then back up to huonville. Was pushing reasonably hard - particularly towards end, but wasn't quite at race pace so happy to see time is a shade under when I did race it a month or so before the winter challenge. Especially as I went slowly through the channel and had a drink and fussed around with my headphones at various points. Also I hit the brakes on the way back when a swimming tiger snake appeared in front of my boat. avoided running it over but then it was right next to me as i was still moving faster than it was - so I could have hooked it out of the water with my paddle if i had so desired. ugg. I was afraid it might come onboard (any port in a storm) but it seemed to be firmly focussed on getting to the other side of the river. totally freaked me out though. Didn't stop me from having a swim in the river when I got back as the temperature was beautiful.
