down north south with andy - fun.

Saturday Dec 29, 2012 #

kayaking 1:10:00 [3]

from sandy bay almost to bridge (via coast) into headwind, then straight down the middle back.

cycling 1:15:00 [3]

ride with Jon from home, via new skills park (bit shit but not as shit as I expected it to be), then the normal pick hill loop - i.e. up for 40 mins or so, then down for 20. fun. didn't feel as awful as I deserved to on the hill..

cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Bruny Island ride with Su and Charmain. Clare you would love this ride too - right up your alley. didn't do full loop as we took shoes and walked out to the lookouty bit (which was 40 minutes) at the end part so had to go back the quick way. fun though.

kayaking 50:00 [3]

From great bay out into wind for 30 mins then turned and roared back with big waves and tailwind. fun too.

from springs down north south then home. back was pretty sore coming down north south (normally it's ok until sandy bay/taroona) so I stopped in salamanca (which was crazy due to the ever expanding Taste) to buy and consume some nurafen. Made it home just as a southerly headwind hit so that was good.

The bottom part of north south is getting pretty dusty - it's like the formerly hard packed trails are just turning to dust and subsiding which is a bugger. Today it was so busy on the trail it was like Elizabeth street at 10am on a Sunday. Which is to say busy by north/south standards with lots of walkers, rider-upperers, rider downers and stopperers - but really not too bad considering. I got passed by a girl on the way down but as she was wearing baggy shorts, knee pads and elbow pads (i.e. downhill racing kit) I didn't mind.

nice calm morning so went from kingston south past blackmans bay and back

Running 55:00 [3]

Truganni track with denny. first time i've run/walked in a while! rolled my ankle ridiculously on way back down (on flat ground!) - is ok though. hard work going up it!

north south then back to sandy bay with paul. had to wait for him a bit on the north south as he wasn't too happy with his equipment (also local knowledge is very handy up there!)

Saturday Dec 22, 2012 #

kayaking 1:20:00 [3]

'social' paddle - should have guessed it would turn into a race after about 2 minutes! Still I just kept it steady - up to the bridge and back again. enjoyed the back part -= with a nice tailwind and some waves! happy to get back and have a chocolate milk and bbq eggs fro breakfast!

Tired but couldn't go past a free lift up to the springs. so down on north south track (interestingly without stopping it took me 44mins- so that's a pretty good long section of single track really - I mustn't forget how fantastic it is!). Then back along the city bikeway and up over bonnet hill. was tired but actually felt heaps stronger than last week when I did the same thing. Stopped for 10 minutes at the csiro

in the last week I must have done enough training for all of 2013- so now I can take the year off. phew.

kayaking 1:15:00 [3]

lordy - another sloggy session. upwind in choppy splashy conditions to the bridge from little sandy bay. the back. took 45 minutes up, 30 back. quite completely buggered!

cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Sluggish ride around trevallyn. really could have done better but what-evs.

cycling 1:05:00 [3]

Back at Kate Reid for one last ride - felt weary but it was still fun! Sweated buckets as it was quite humid.

cycling 2:00:00 [3]

Kate Reid reserve in Launceston . fun fun and extra fun. already wishing i was back there.

cycling 1:20:00 [3]

Stubbs Road. Fun too, but not as fun as KRR. Good to do it in a more relaxed fashion - i.e. without the kids or a rush. Rode a couple of new short tracks they've been building which were good too.

cycling 1:05:00 [3]

Dropped off car for Denny at Neika, then cycled out to gate (in the rain) then turned and came home via westringia which is unfortunately getting really overgrown which is a shame as there are some great sections.

Sunday Dec 16, 2012 #

cycling 3:10:00 [3]

margate tramway sandfly picket hill loop.

first 90 minutes was miserable due to wind and rain but it all got nicer after that.

Friday Dec 14, 2012 #

kayaking 45:00 [3]

not the glassy conditions I was expecting but had fun catching waves from sandy bay to CSIRO then slogged back upwind. nice to do something shorter.

Thursday Dec 13, 2012 #

kayaking 1:05:00 [3]

Nice early paddle (not as early as Andy's run though) - but on water by 6.30am in North West Bay (so a 15 minute drive rather than 5). Nice to have a change of scenery although I'm spoilt for choice in Hobart.

no dolphins today but plate sized crabs. marine life is crazy.

Wednesday Dec 12, 2012 #

cycling 2:20:00 [3]

From the Springs down north south track to tolosa, then home via city cycleway and bonnet hill. back was really sore from taroona onwards - felt like the last day of cape to cape.

Tuesday Dec 11, 2012 #

kayaking 1:05:00 [3]

Nice morning paddle in glassy conditions. saw dolphins a few hundred metres away, then as I was daydreaming and watching my paddle blade go into the water a dolphin suddenly appeared right under it! Then it popped up beside me for a few breaths before swimming away. they are big and noisy.

Sunday Dec 9, 2012 #

kayaking 1:40:00 [3]

from Huonville down to franklin and back. started early and enjoyed it - was mostly sheltered from the wind that has been blowing for a couple of days. happy.

Saturday Dec 8, 2012 #

kayaking 1:05:00 [3]

got up early but it was way windier than forecast so ended up being confined to around kingston beach' as there was a roaring northerly. I paddled north close to the beach out of the wind, then caught waves back to the other end. did three laps of that. might try huonville tomorrow.
