Orienteering 1:09:00 [3]

day 2 of easter. Mt Alexander. steep , open, lots of giant granite. not really my kettle of fish so I was happy to limit my losses to 1 five minute mistake and a few single minute ones. legs were tired.

Orienteering 23:15 [3]

feeling the work / home squeeze at the moment. got out for a ride from waterworks to ferntree and back. expected it to take 60 mins but only took 45. then rode from car park to work which I wouldn't count but it does involve napoleon street so I counted it.

Walking 4:00:00 [3]

Tarn Shelf walk with Jackie. Weather was really horrible as we came along the shelf - howling wind and rain. turns out my 17yr old vortex is no-longer waterproof so by the time we got to the (very busy) newdagate hut I was cold. Luckily after that point we headed down the hill with the wind behind our backs and no more rain from that point. took a while for my teeth to stop chattering though - a trip to kathmandu is due!

Walking 4:00:00 [3]

WITH Jackie to Cape Huay then up Mt Fortescue and back. about 15k. will write more about track condition on blog but it was a good day out!

with some tricky kid shuffling managed to ride into work - although as there must have been an incident or accident on the southern outlet the Channel Highway was chockers. So chockers that I past the cars which had streamed past me on the way up, as I approached the top of the hill. then they were crawling in from Taroona onwards. It was generally very busy - last weeks rain was much nicer!

good to be out on bike again though.

cycling 50:00 [3]

friday afternoon commute home. left work 45 minutes late which was bad, but had a tailwind, which was good.

I've got an enforced few rest days coming up as Jon is going to Sydney tomorrow so I thought I had better do something a bit tougher this morning so I came to work via ferntree. Got up to junction in about 48 mins then rugged up and came swooshing back down to sandybay via waterworks, then up over napoleon street to Salamanca. It was only just light when I left at 7am. uh oh..

Capital Punishment 50k
As I was riding up Mt Stromlo stuck behind a zillion people I was composing the article I'm going to write about 'how to choose your start group'. I foolishly chose 60-70% which I knew was going to be an issue when I saw all the people wearing running shoes and/or baggy afl shorts over their tights start in the group in front of me. After 17k I caught up to lots of them as we hit the single trail climb and of course there were even bigger issues going down - having to be on the brakes on these beautiful corners on the way down made me want to cry! - I actually rode both sections faster with nic yesterday I recon and we were taking it easy.
Luckily the 2nd half of the race had lots of fire trails which meant a) lots of overtaking possibilities and b) lots of Ks ticked off at a decent pace. The last 10 was single trail again and aside from issues with chumps at the start of them, it was smooth sailing for most of it. My split times show that I was 100 places faster in the 2nd half than the first.
anyway - very happy overall - delighted to be finished!

super fun little ride with Nic PC at stromlo. wish we had strolo in tassie. rode to top then down again. oh - that was after we rode in the playground section where I fell off a see-saw feature (oops) and practised heaps of those narrow wooden things. Jon has since implied that I was foolish to ride the see-saw the day before a 50k. what-evs

cycling 35:00 [3]

hmm.. just got the 'get started using your training diary' message. how embarrassing.
did an easy 30 mins before work just to make sure I could still ride with swollen blue stankle.

cycling 2:05:00 [3]

from st helens, out to humbug hill, around clare's loop then back to st helens. got lost a few times so took longer than i had planned! luckily though i had a tail wind to help me back from bin along bay.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

day 1 st helens 3-day. unfortunately i rolled my ankle so won't run tomorrow for certain. maybe on monday. did finish the course though - it was technical anyway so not much disadvantage in walking!

Wet morning. orginially planned to ride via ferntree but rain and fog made this look like a bad idea. so I went back to bed thinking i'd just drive. but then I got up and decided that riding the regular route would actually be way less hassle than driving (as we're going on to st Helens after school so would have had to leave spare car in battery point etc etc). so got suited up in wet weather gear and hit the road and actually really enjoyed the quieter morning and less tyre resistance! and the shower at work of course.

Loooong commute this morning via summerleas road and ferntree then swooshed down to Salamanca via the waterworks. beautiful morning for it. Could do with less roadkill though.

Summer Survival 8k race. 46.54
Happy with that time - conditions were flat so had to paddle hard the whole way. Through the whole race I had a decent mix of wash riding and towing people along behind me.
My start possibly could have been better - I positioned myself out wide which was a good spot proven by the fact I was surrounded by the big guns - but unfortunately that meant they moved off too fast for me to jump onto the back of, while people my pace were off too far to the left. Nethertheless its a long race so no point fretting about the start.
Felt my 2nd lap was better than my first - managed to close a gap to group in front of me (with no help from the boats riding my wash I might add!) , and after a slow squashy turn on the very first buoy I consistently jumped a few places every time we went around a buoy by taking the inside line.

Had a good finish as well - caught a nice little wave to launch me ahead of the group I was with then I struggled up the beach to the finish on my legs.

cycling 1:18:00 [3]

Now I have to start fretting about capital punishment in a few weeks time..
So while Zali was blasting some boys at a laser zone party I went to the waterworks and rode from the bottom up to neika and back. Felt every muscle that I used yesterday with clarabel.

Fun cycle with clare around the picket hill loop.

kayaking 10:00 [3]

about ten minutes of paddling at kingston!

cycling 50:00 [3]

regular commute. busses were on strike so a bit more traffic but no busses - yay!
road out of Kingston has been widened just at the start (the steep bit) which makes life a lot easier for the struggling cyclist being hounded by a stream of traffic trying to get past. yay!

friday afternoon commute.
