commute. warmish.

cycling 50:00 [3]

commute home. took it easy - it's been a big week...

Running 35:00 [3]

sluggish but it was nice to run around waterworks before work.

kayaking 1:00:00 [3]

Paddle group. made it on time for a change. Quite a relatively warm evening and completely flat. We did 2 x 25 minute 'efforts'. Each one was from DSS down to prossers and back (so bloody miles). I pushed as hard as i could to hang onto the back of the faster paddlers in my group so was tired by the end but it was a good session for me.

kayaking 50:00 [3]

Cold morning at the beach - wore my new pogies for first 15 minutes then took them off but had to put them back on as I returned to the beach. There's a freezing airmass coming off the mountain making it much colder in the bay of Kingston beach. brr.

Running 42:31 [3]

I had a pretty tight schedule as I had to get home and then to drs for flu injection by 9am so ran the alum cliffs track slightly faster than normal.

kayaking 1:03:00 [3]

Race time 59:58 - 10k
From new norfolk bridge down to Boyer and back. Nice to see a different part of the derwent for a change! It was blowing a fair bit so a fast run down and a battle back up. I was happy to hang onto the back of Andy Maver for the first 5 k but couldn't keep it up after the turn into the wind and current. Made a concerted effort to get back onto his wash (paddled 30 hard strokes) but the moment I got there I just didn't have enough left to hang on so dropped immediately back off again. not sure what lesson to take away from that!

Held off a guy called Rod who was huffing and puffing behind me on the way back. After we finished I was chatting to him about the race and he said - oh well at least I was 3rd girl. and I said 'huh?' and he said, 'well first Jodi, then you, then me' Now I'm assuming he's using self de-preciating humour here - cos I don't think he is physiologically a girl or ever was. So in fact he was inadvertently being quite insulting - was he saying he was so hopeless that he was a girl ? I dunno - I spent the drive home wondering about it - I'm a girl and I do pretty well in the multisport races thanks Rod. odd.

Running 45:00 [3]

kayaking 55:00 [3]

Paddle Group - due to a Skype call with Chennai I was late but luckily someone else was too so I had company as we paddled north to try to find the group. we had a 50% chance of success (north or south) so I was happy we found them up past the docks. They were on their 2nd of 6 x 4min intervals so we joined in, then I did an extra two on the way back. mill-pond conditions.

kayaking 45:00 [3]

had to take jon to airport this morning so changed plans to paddle at Kingston rather than marieville esp. which was a shame as the river looked glassy as we drove through the city which was nOT the case in Kingston this morning. oh well.

did 2 pyramids - 30sec, 1 min, 2, 3 2 1 with 30 secs off and 5 mins between sets.

Running 18:00 [3]

Planned just a Very short run after the paddle - just wanted to sus out my ankle as it has been feeling a little sore. It was fine though so that's good.

cycling 1:15:00 [3]

Finally forced myself back onto my MTB for the first time since the Wombat 100 (50k). I had big plans to ride up to the springs and down north south but when push came to shove I couldn't bring myself to do it - so I decided to do something less challenging and did the picket hill loop with a couple of loops around king borough bike track along the way. fun except for stupid dogs.

Running 33:00 [3]

Waterworks loop. forced myself to run the whole way up the steps to Gentle Annie Falls (which I have never seen). So happy with that.

kayaking 1:22:00 [3]

I think we stole an autumn day from sydney today as it was 22 degrees and sunny and beautiful. With a gentle northerly and kids soccer up in the big town I decided to get Jon to drop me off to do the paddle from Marieville, to Csiro, then back to kingston beach. It started off pretty calm by the time I got to taroona beach so I had lots of fun catching waves for the 2nd half.

kayaking 55:00 [3]

6.30am paddle. lumpy but not windy. didn't really do too much quality stuff - better pencil that in for the weekend. don't feel too much like huffing and puffing first thing in the morning!

Running 43:30 [3]

Alum cliffs right after paddle. I'm sure I run faster with headphones on.

kayaking 45:00 [3]

Yeh - so plan was to do paddling group. but to do that I have to leave work at 4.15. Which is fine except if a) I left at 4.30 yesterday and b) I'm the one telling everyone else what to do, and I'd just told them how much stuff we* need to get finished by Monday, and they were all beavering away at it and I just didn't have the heart to leave so early while they slaved away. So I pushed around spreadsheets until the dot of 5, then left (still first) and consequently only caught up to the paddling group as they finished their 'efforts'. So I need to do some tomorrow morning to make up for it. 45 minutes is still better than nothing, but it's not better than the usual thursday quality session. Not sure what to do about this as I have to take kids swimming next Wednesday (and leave early) which means when I want to go early on thursday I'll look like the slackest project manager that there ever was.
*The opposite of the Royal We. I don't do anything productive.

cycling 50:00 [3]

morning commute

Running 43:00 [3]

Full truganini track - 23:05 to top. little sluggish but hey I'd just ridden over the bonnet! didn't check time to split tree..

cycling 48:00 [3]

beautiful calm and light trip home. forgot headlights so skived off work 1/2 - 1hr early so I didn't have to ride in dark. Such a nice evening.

Monday May 6, 2013 #

cycling 50:00 [3]

ride to work

cycling 50:00 [3]

ride home. felt very dark.

kayaking 1:37:00 [3]

North West Bay paddle in opposite direction to normal. very nice.

Running 48:47 [3]

Shuffle around Peter Murrell Reserve.

Friday May 3, 2013 #

cycling 50:00 [3]

morning commute - windy! but not wet or very cold so that was ok.

Running 23:00 [3]

Stopped at truganini for a run to the split tree. transition was smoother as I just locked my backpack to the bike and ran with my mobile. and I didn't bring my wallet to work at all. it would take a keen early-bird thief to steal my bike shoes, lights etc out of my bag and they only have 25mins to do it.

11:45 to split tree

cycling 50:00 [3]

Commute home. Howling northerly winds - I'm glad they weren't southerly or I'd still be riding.

Thursday May 2, 2013 #

Running 44:00 [3]

I was cross and (as a result of incident which made me cross) running late which is a good way to run a bit faster, although having said that, the time looks about the same. legs felt pretty good though.

kayaking 1:15:00 [3]

Day 2 of official icebreaker training went better than day 1. Tonight was the first winter paddle group session so the usual tough workout. I'm back to being the only woman in these sessions as Jodi can't make it by the earlier start time. Nice calm evening.

Wednesday May 1, 2013 #

cycling 50:00 [3]

first official day of Icebreaker training did NOT go to plan. I loaded the boat onto the car on tuesday night and got everything ready for a morning paddle and run. Indluding setting my alarm for 6.30. So when I woke up at 7.30 it was a bit disappointing (turned out i'd set it for 6.30pm). also it was raining.

So I had to unload the boat and gear. and ended up getting a lift to work and riding home - my lights went out just as I started to climb out of taroona so it was quite dark and wet. sigh.
