thursday night paddle group. coach ben wasn't there so we did our own thing. I led a little group of three and we did laps from beach, dog boy, D buoy, pontoon, breakwater x 2 . 5
had way more fun than last year.

superfun halloween night event with the kids. we did it as a group. on one of the 'trick' controls you had to carry a pumpkin to the next control and back. we got 'back' then realised Jett was missing, turned around to shine our torch back the way we had just come, and there he was, struggling along carrying this giant pumpkin on his shoulder. he looked so little and the pumpkin looked so big!

30,1,2,3,4,3,2,1,30 1 minute in between. was getting tough by the 3/4/3 minute mark!

did a bit of technique after so all-in-all a pretty good session!

only a few customers at paddle group tonight due to horizontal rain and high winds until about 20 minutes before start. Amazingly it then got pretty calm and there was blue sky for the duration! crazy weather.

did longish intervals until cartwright point. then a long race back but I just took that easy as frankly I couldn't be arsed due to large indian lunch to celebrate delivering first six episodes of Buzz Bumble to Beyond. Only 46 to go!

dont' really know time yet. results a bit of a debacle. team possibly came third thanks to consistently fast cycling by Jon and Paul puling out another last leg game-saver.

was disappointed by my own paddle today. started ok but on 2nd and 3rd laps just had packs catching me and passing. people I should have finished with were 2 mins or so ahead. I had jon's cold and slept badly but i don't know if that's the reason. it's the first time I've had a 'bad day' in the boat for no really solid reason - normally i'm pretty consistent and paddle to my training level. bugger.

Still - as it happens the 2 mins or so ultimately didn't matter - paul overhauled 3rd place going over the saddle back towards the lodge. yay!

freycinet Challenge Day 1. Although if the wind continues I'll be surprised if there is a day 2 for me. Paddle went ok - it was a 3 lap sausage cause - up into the wind then back. On the third lap the wind increased by half again so it was a real battle up, then fun to surf back sort of although people were capsizing around me. 10 minutes after i finished the wind increased again and many many people had trouble at turning buoys and ended up swimming. The rescue boats had to decide who to go to first. I'm glad I was out by then.

HR was a bit high - i thik i'm getting jon's cold as my eyes couldn't stop streaming and i was a bit sneezy adn snotty before and during the race.

not sure how team is doing. paul recovered from sea sickness and had an ok run, jon was awesome on the bike legs.

Mt Amos. it wasn't as treacherous as last time as it was a bit dryer but it's still a serious walk. great views. can't believe Zali has done this twice already this week! today I was by myself as they were all on the Wineglass Bay cruise with Paul and Dani and mum and dad.

let's just say that Paul hasn't recovered from the rough conditions yet..

easy paddle with 15 minutes of short sprints along the way. could do with a massage as shoulders are quite tight.

Lap of the lagoon to test out replacement foot pedals. all seems to be in order.

Walking 1:55:00 [3]

Hazards loop. walked and jogged about a third or slightly more.
walked to saddle - 15 mins
walk/jog to bottom - 16 mins
jog across isthmus - 15 minutes
end of hazards beach 15 minutes (had to walk due to gale force head-wind)
rest of the way I walked & jogged the flat open tracks.
worn out by end.

windy paddle to bridge from long beach. 45 up, 30 back pretty much.

very wet. so wet that I had to park car in 10cm of water in the car park.

did 12 mins warmup then 4 x 5 mins efforts including full race start (which is doing frantic little strokes to get boat up to speed. Always makes me want to spew 30 seconds later). 2 mins rest.
