Orienteering 38:00 [3]

did the cryptic medium course.

turns out that if you add anything extra to orienteering (like having to try to interpret cryptic clue descriptions where the control circle is only indicitive of the general area around which we might find the control) - tips it past the intellectually enjoyable range! Nothing wrong with the course but mostly I found the control, then was able (in hindsight) to work out what the description meant.

For example 'stairing into space and not ill) is a stairwell. "so useless I threw it out" was a drain. (I was expecting it to be a rubbish bin).. etc etc.

I took 37 minutes, the kids took 80 but they obviously have more tolerance for searching than I do as they said they really enjoyed it!

Orienteering 20:00 [3]

first swim in a while. pool was HOT. did the minimum requred 1k, but the last 250 was an abomination to the sport of swimming.

cycling 50:00 [3]

wet roads but all ok otherwise. headwind through sandybay but I'm tougher than that.

cycling 10:00 [3]

was intending to ride home but front light failed (and it's VERY dark coming over the Bonnet, so lightless wasnt' an option. Cycled to the Casino and got a lift instead.

Orienteering 48:00 [3]

was happy with my run - right up until I downloaded and realised I missed control 11. I didnt even see it on the map until that point - it was tucked in close to 12 with a lot of detail.

one of those wet, calm, quiet mornings I actually quite like. espeically as I'll get a lift home and wont have to get back into wet gear.

cycling 50:00 [3]

broke my 2.5 week non-riding streak by riding in today. was quite cold but otherwise ok - I left late due to spending the morning on the internet failing to book our Milford Track walk (luckily Andy was able to book on our behalf). So lots more traffic than normal.

cycling 50:00 [3]

nearly bailed out and just rode to Jon at the casino to get a lift home, but then noticed the wind was blowing 22kph towards home - so decided to tough it out, and it was fine, but dark!
unfortunately due to email failure, jon waited for me at the casino. I was home before he gave up.

Orienteering 56:00 [3]

Orienteering at Springbank near campania. It was wet but managed to miss downpours during my run. Made a mistake at number 8 - as I approached the boulder features I congratulated myself on spiking it, OH how I wasn't....3 minutes of braken bashing later...

The mud on the access road made for an exciting drive out - in the end we had to get towed out by John and Miriam (who are back orienteering!) - both cars were sliding all over the place! poor old magna!
