Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

technical training at stringy bark creek. feel suitably tired.

Thursday Mar 25, 2010 #

Note

intentional rest day. however after mowing lawn, training the passionfruit vine and whipper-snippering some edges (very badly) I am completely exhausted. the hot weather didn't help.

Running 47:00 [3]

pipeline track. thank goodness it was flat.

Running 50:00 [3]

sluggy run along alum cliffs. Felt satisfyingly buggered after yesterday and was nursing some injuries sustained in my cliff-hanger 6-4, 6-5 win in a round of the royal tennis pennant last night (mental note : concrete is HARD).

cycling 15:00 [3]

whooosh - a quick try-out of my re-conditioned 1992 road bike! Squeezed my feet into the shoes, got the hang of the gear levers (they're on the frame - how inconvenient!), got used to the low riding position and zipped down to souicide bend and back before collecting the gang of monkeys from school. fun. 2 new tyres and new tubes also add to confidence levels!

Running 1:09:00 [3]

Waterworks run - from bottom up up up to ferntree tavern, then down down down back again. As stix mentioned when he was here, the problem wiht hobart is that there are no good loop runs - and he's right - the only loop runs generally involve a bucketload of hills such that you spend the 1st half of the run going up, the second half going down.
peter murrell reserve is an exception i guess, but there's only so much you can do there (although it is soft and easy-on-the-stankle).

Swimming 30:00 [3]

easy relaxed k and a bit at the aquatic centre.

Orienteering race 20:00 [3]

I did my ankle 4 weeks before easter last year so this year I have been getting increasingly anxious about stuffing it again and consequently having to spend the event surrounded by snotty children in the creche tent. Today the terrain was so rocky I almost pulled out on the taped route to the start circle.

Decided to keep walking/running for a few controls for the navagational practise but never got into it and my distance estimation was shot. Spent 10 minutes looking for a root mound in a large area of unmapped root mounds. Had an attack of the Sooky-la-las and also the Whothefuckputsacontrolonarootmoundsurroundedbyunmappedrootmound-itis.
pulled out and ran back on the track to the finish.
