Running (Specific Endurance) 2:45:00 [2] 20.6 km (8:01 / km) +1317m 6:04 / km

Doing things backwards today, had a nap and felt like I needed to stuff my face before I got out the door. Walking around town is tiring, feeling ready to crawl back into the woods.

Went through the motions running in circles on Arthur's Seat, frustratingly short climbs and an irritating number of people, wasn't much of a heartbreak to get back to the flat 15 minutes early. Noticed some useful stuff about my pack so got something out of it all. A few tight spots but nothing bad, should all ease up with a few days on the sofa with a book.

Running (Moderate) 1:00:00 [3] 11.4 km (5:16 / km) +607m 4:09 / km

Some steeper, more technical sections than my usual Mod terrain but all still runnable. In Edinburgh til I go to Andorra so working with what I have and don't fancy pounding pavement.

A bit of a knot in my left hamstring but that'll work out with rolling and stretching.

Cycling (Easy/Mod.) 1:55:00 [3]

50.8k, 580m

Up the ski road, effort definitely crept above easy a few times. A fun ride though, legs feeling pretty strong.

I didn't complain about the heat because I didn't get any! Two days of clag and rain. If we get poor weather in Andorra I'll have plenty recent experience to draw on. I've had sod all else the last few weeks!

Over tapering is probably less of a concern for this kind of thing than for shorter races. Two and a half days of slog doesn't require quite the same sharpness as a marathon.

Running (Easy) 49:00 [2] 8.7 km (5:38 / km) +104m 5:19 / km

Easy run before massage. Managed a couple of strides before hordes of people appeared and I ran away.

Feeling really good, massage a lot less painful than last week. I'm a day behind the schedule but I don't think that matters too much, even if I do the long run on Sunday rather than Saturday. Given how I feel now and how recovery has gone the last few weeks I'd be more concerned about overtapering than not recovering enough. Which is great.

Running (Hiking) 9:30:00 [2] 34.5 km (16:31 / km) +2700m 11:53 / km

Probably managed 6 hours sleep in the smoky main room of the bothy. Definitely felt sore getting out of my sleeping bag and didn't feel any better when I got outside and the clag was down to the glens. I even started walking out towards the car but the guilt kicked in after 50 metres and I turned around and headed into the hills.

Lots and lots of bog and ankle breaking boulder field, hence the lower average pace, but if my ankles aren't strong now they never will be. Once I got going and shook off some of my shitty mood my energy levels were fine and I was moving pretty well. My body knew it had been used but never told me to stop. Fuelled pretty well all day, ran the last few kilometres down a fireroad back to the car.

Pretty chipper this morning. I have a massage booked for tomorrow, you may be able to hear the screams in Austria.
