Running (Specific Endurance) 2:00:00 [3] 15.1 km (7:57 / km) +1362m 5:29 / km

Feeling a little tired from yesterday, particularly in lower legs and ankles. Worked pretty hard though and moved fairly well. Didn't eat, drink or carry anything, largely due to lack of forethought. Driving to Glencoe for 2 hours seemed overkill so I stayed local and did laps of Meall a'Bhuachaille. The quality of rest has slipped a little the last week or so so I aim to fix that, tomorrow will be easy with a capital E. So, Easy.

Running (Moderate) 1:00:00 [4] 14.9 km (4:02 / km) +137m 3:51 / km

Family friendly bike track and fire road. Felt generally a bit wiped before I went out having spent the day driving, cycling to and from the highland games (20k each way mega soft pedalling, mostly freewheeling on the way back) and sitting around watching the under 5s tattie and spoon race.

Effort either spot on or a touch hard, certainly quicker than the pace you suggested on the programme. Legs tiring so mewhattowards the end but the pace stayed fairly constant and there was more to give if I'd needed to. Only small, mellow climbs but I went a little harder on the more obvious ones, coasting on the downs a bit to avoid getting into a hole. Actually quite enjoyed running a bit harder on flatter, less technical ground. Even wore my race flats!

Now face stuffing and lying down time.

Running (Easy) 1:20:00 [2] 11.7 km (6:50 / km) +407m 5:49 / km

Didn't get heaps of sleep last night so started out a little sluggish, perked up after half an hour or so. 6 strides to finish, all moving fairly well. Will get another S&C session this evening.

Cycling (Hill reps) 2:19:00 [4]

55.8k, 1,167m.

30' warm up, 7 x ~7:30 with 2-3 minutes soft pedalling/freewheeling down. Fastest interval was when I had to overtake about a dozen rollerskiers. All pretty positive, I "enjoyed" it. A little tightness in my lower back, leftovers from s&c rather than a problem with my position on the bike, though that's something I need to tweak a little. Considered getting a bigger cassette, my ratios are certainly keeping me honest towards the end of each rep.

Running (Easy) 25:00 [2] 3.8 km (6:35 / km) +102m 5:48 / km

Easy running with one hiked climb. The 4 strides at the end probably weren't my best work. Only about 3.5 hours between finishing cycling and jogging isn't ideal, ate a bunch of food and tried to lie down as much as possible. Hopefully that's enough if the run is just a short shakeout.

Running (Easy) 50:00 [3] 8.6 km (5:49 / km) +67m 5:36 / km

Pretty pervasive muscle soreness after a decent s&c session yesterday. Nothing dreadful, just enough to remind me that I need to do that stuff more often. Jogging a bit laboured today but felt grand on the hill sprints. Is that to do with activating different muscle fibres or just the psychology of a short, bounded effort?

With the bike intervals tomorrow, is that a long enough session to warrant drinking a few calories? Or just run on breakfast? Also, possibly for future reference, is there any reason not to do the bike reps on a mountain bike? Maybe less easy to maintain constant power?

Running (Easy) 59:00 [2] 10.9 km (5:25 / km) +130m 5:06 / km

Still feeling a little clunky and uncoordinated but did 6 strides to finish and felt better on those.
