Note

Rest day today I think. I'll walk the dog and do a little stretching but other than that it's cups of tea and improving books. A cycle or jog tomorrow followed by a massage. Hopefully I'll be in good enough nick for some of this week's more meaningful sessions but if Tuesday moderate run turns into an easy run I don't think that'd be a disaster.

Running (Race?) 3:57:52 [4] 35.0 km (6:48 / km) +2600m 4:57 / km

A little bit fitter, a little bit sharper and (most importantly) aware that it wasn't going to happen by accident, some effort was required.

Went out a good bit harder than I did in May. 1:26 to Ben Macdui, 4 minutes down as opposed to 11(!) last time. Then 2:53 at Braeriach, 3 minutes up as opposed to the best part of 9 in arrears. Held almost all that advantage back to the Lodge despite being this close to cramping up and bonking. By no means a perfectly executed run but I don't really give a shit.

Running (Easy) 32:00 [2] 4.7 km (6:49 / km) +150m 5:52 / km

Not so much a run, more of a mince around the woods with the dog. Some jogging backwards, gentle drills and standing looking impatient waiting for her to catch up/stop looking for deer carcases. 4 hill sprints at the end felt pretty decent, some stretching afterwards. Tomorrow should be a laugh.

Running (Easy) 1:00:00 [2] 10.8 km (5:33 / km) +100m 5:19 / km

A bit stiff today, glad to have Saturday's forecast as an excuse to drop the intensity. 6 strides afterwards and I finished up feeling much better than I did before the run, so that's nice.

Clear and no rain forecast for Saturday still, a little windy but let's not get too picky. My watch recorded 8000m of vert today. I'll need it to verify my run on Saturday but after that it'll go to Suunto to see if it can be fixed. Is it problematic to do the rest of my Skyline training by time or are guesstimate distance and vert ok?

Running (Threshold) 1:37:00 [4] 17.0 km (5:42 / km) +1000m 4:25 / km

A little clunky but felt like I went ok on the uphills. 21'28" and 21'05" for the ups, 12'04" and 11'51" for the downs, probably doing the descents around 8 hour race pace.

Running (Moderate) 1:10:00 [4] 16.1 km (4:21 / km) +250m 4:02 / km

A little tiredness from the back to backs but moving well overall, the usual glute and hamstring fatigue setting in from about 60' but nothing worriesome. Should manage to squeeze in a small s&c session before work.

Cycling 1:34:00 [2]

42k, 150m.

Shorter than I intended due to a snapped chain, 20 minutes faffing on the verge trying to fix it and a subsequent loss of enthusaism. Back home for some stretching and big lunch with a few to giving tomorrow's moderate session the attention it deserves.
