In Edinburgh, so hillier running round Arthur's seat. A little clunky, maybe due in part to 3 hours in the car after yesterday's run. Right shin occasionally tweaking on the downs but mostly fine.

Hill sprints were good. Got where I wanted to do them and there were a bunch of runners there! Such is life in the big smoke.

Easy jogging with Karen. Kept expecting my leg to hurt but it didn't. So that's good. 6 strides felt good.

6x60" w/ 3' recovery, 6x30" w/ 2'30" recovery.

I think this went well. I was going further on the sixties than the last time I did this session, except the last one which was shit because I zoned out. An audience of a farmer fixing a gate and his perplexed dog.

Good ride. Working reasonably hard until the last ten minutes which were a soft pedal home. Nice to give the lower legs a day off, calves were feeling tired from running uphill with a bigger pack on on Sunday.

Massage in the afternoon followed by some stretching.

Pretty tired so kept the run short and binned the strides. A few inches of snow so I'd have been sliding all over the place anyway.

That right leg thing was a little tweaky towards the end. Might get on the bike tomorrow if the snow goes and have a massage in the afternoon, hopefully that sorts it out


Strength and stability routine. Used a 10kg plate for the squats and a couple of the weighted carries. Hurdle stuff is definitely getting easier, except when I have my head up my arse and made a mess of it. Finished with some stretching.

Tired from rushing about the last few days. Driving back to Aviemore and doing a busyish bar shift probably not ideal race recovery. Not sure I slept all that well, got out of bed irrationality angry with the world. (WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A PEN IN MY SHOES?!! AAARGH) This persisted for some of my run, particularly the early climb where I was pulling on heather, shoving my poles a foot deep in moss and getting slush all over my tights. At least one kilometre that was ten times slower than yesterday's average pace. Things improved at the top of the second hill where some kind, windswept people gave me a cracker and some cheese. In the end, a worthwhile exercise in getting it when you can't be arsed and plodding through fairly shitty ground, even if it wasn't perfect from a performance perspective.

Poles, gaiters, the same two pack set up I plan on using for the BAG (the race vest I used for Andorra plus a bumbag with a belay jacket and bonus snacks.) I'll start making it heavier over the next couple of weeks. A few inches of snow, windy and cold higher up. Blah, blah.
