Running race (Race) 1:02:02 [5] 13.0 km (4:46 / km) +620m 3:51 / km

Thorough warm up, keeping an eye on the foot. 15 minutes running then the usual lunges etc., some strides. Tight but not painful, easing slightly as I went through everything.

Went off with the front group, me and 3 others with an average age of about 12 who dropped off to varying degrees. I maybe had 90 seconds at the top, maybe similar at the finish after running the whole way down looking over my shoulder. Not a sound from the foot, only thought about it when I remembered I should be thinking about it. Gav Bryson was second, pleased to beat him over a race of this distance, though he's recovering from a freak gardening accident so I imagine it wouldn't happen again.

Course a mix of fire road and single track mountain bike trails, mostly very runnable, just a few very short sections of hiking.

Running (Easy) 42:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:15 / km) +170m 4:45 / km

Aborted near the end with a sore foot.

All was well, moving at what felt like a reasonable pace, hill sprints were grand, left foot was if anything better than it has been lately. Then it tweaked going up a gentle hill. Oddly it felt sore on top of the foot, rather than underneath which has been the norm. Maybe ibuprofen gelling the bottom has just transfered things to the top. I walked home to avoid aggravating it further.

I will do a little icing and elevate it this afternoon. My hope is that because it came on suddenly and appears to be ok now that it will be alright to run on tomorrow. I'll look around for a running podiatrist, see if there's anyone round here that could take a look at it, I'd rather not live in fear of it happening again.

Cycling (Moderate) 1:11:00 [3]

31.7k, 328m.

Mix of easy, moderate and slightly harder on the biggest hill in the middle. Felt yesterday's run in the hamstrings a little to begin with but that disappeared. Yoga and lacrosse ball on hip flexors time!

Running (Easy hills) 1:17:00 [2] 12.3 km (6:16 / km) +558m 5:06 / km

Meall a'Bhuachaille then some forestry tracks. Only 4 strides as wave after wave of Duke of Edinburgh kids came ambling along. Gym afterwards.

Running (Moderate) 1:30:00 [3] 21.2 km (4:15 / km) +103m 4:09 / km

A speedy one today, running near work so slightly faster trails. Outside of my left ankle got a little tight on a few hundred metres of tarmac at one point but it went away again pretty quickly. Beach jog cool down then in the loch.

Running (Easy) 1:08:00 [2] 12.2 km (5:34 / km) +228m 5:06 / km

PBJ. Mostly grand, underside of my right foot a little niggly, I'll so some extra golf balling and maybe get the ibuprofen gel on it if it feels inflamed. Hill sprints fine.

Note

S&C - all the usual plus a few sets of some of those front squat variations from a while back to keep the hips loose and compliment all the glute resistance band stuff.

Monday May 14 #

Running (Easy hills) 1:25:00 [2] 13.0 km (6:32 / km) +546m 5:24 / km

Plodding in the sunshine. A bit sluggish on the ups, quads tight on the steeper downs but flowing nicely the last few downhillish Ks. Beach was mobbed so I couldn't handle the usual barefoot jog, just did some stretching and had a swim.

Sunday May 13 #

Running (Specific Endurance) 3:00:00 [3] 20.0 km (9:00 / km) +1500m 6:33 / km

Lochan, Loch Avon, Cairngorm. Two ups, two downs, running almost all the first climb, shit descending legs on the rough, rocky first downhill then a mix of hiking and running up Cairngorm and a faster last descent. Ran it a little quicker and got a twisted ankle for my trouble. Beach jog and dunk.
