Running (Warm up and cool down) 29:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:48 / km) +25m 5:40 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov-8 X-Talons (red)

Running race (Peterhead XC) 37:38 [4] 9.9 km (3:48 / km) +35m 3:44 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talons (red)

Turns out the North district is really big. Aden Country Park, a delightful venue but a massive pain in the arse to get to.

Walked the big look, 4ish k, when we got there to untangle the legs from sitting in the car, then fannied about getting changed. Agonised about what shoes to wear. La Sportivas not really a short race shoe but I was concerned about my foot. A few k of dedicated warm up jogging, as opposed to car-to-toilets-and-back-to-car jogging, then 3 or 4 strides before the start.

Semi frozen grassy field for 1 small loop then 2 big loops mostly on hard packed trails, a fast course. Not much in the way of climbing or technicality but plenty corners. Went for x-talons and they were totally fine. Decided on the small lap not to let Eoin Coull stretch his advantage over me too much. Noone told him this though and he gradually fucked off. Instead I had a pretty good last lap tussle with Gareth Jenkins. He caught me a k and a half in, at which point I started mentally composing the training log entry in which he just pulled away and I soldiered on bravely. Thought I might be able to stay on his heels for half a k or so, got a bit dispirited that I appeared to have no advantage on The Hill, but then he seemed to ease off shortely after and I went ahead again and just ran like buggery for the last 2k. Maybe even shortened the deficit to Eoin a little, but nowhere near enough to make catching him a realistic prospect.

Few k cool down jog, then soup.

I do need to learn that eating like I'm about to do a long race is neither necessary nor desireable before a short race. Stomach felt slightly heavy, was mildly concerned I might get a stitch. That aside, a fun outing. Nice to mix it up with the V45s.

Running (Easy ) 44:00 [2] 8.5 km (5:11 / km) +70m 4:58 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Felt alright today. Right hamstring/glute a bit tight, I think because I've been driving to work in the fucking shite weather. Good overall though. The left foot is improving I think. Definitely likes the Akasha's best so I'll be running in them for a while.

Hill sprints were fine.

Running (Moderate) 1:01:00 [3] 13.3 km (4:35 / km) +120m 4:23 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Coffee, oatcakes, out the door.

Fireroads and some singletrack. A little tiredness from yesterday but not much, mostly focussed in the hamstrings as it usually it. Felt like I was working harder than usual today for no extra speed, I'll put that down to the fact that it's still pretty windy.

7 or 8 strides (still haven't got the hang of counting), first couple a bit rusty but improving after that.

Running (Warm up/Cool down) 35:00 [2] 6.4 km (5:28 / km) +40m 5:18 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Running (Fartlek) 30:00 [4] 7.0 km (4:17 / km)
shoes: Altra Golden Spikes

Feel like a bit of a twat today. Spent the morning, when it was dry, fannying about shopping for bike tyres and watching the Spine, then as soon as I headed out the house it started pissing down. Ran from Rothiemurcus, 3 degrees, windy and raining.

Warmed up out and back puddle dodging on some trails then ran a lap of the field which is usually used for off-road segways. A few little surges worked in but didn't do any strides or drills for fear of getting really cold. Tried to hide behind a fence post while changing into my spikes. It didn't work.

10 x 90" w/ 90" roll-on. Rain turned really heavy a few minutes in, the pace probably dropped off a little with the weight of saturated tights and muscles getting cold. Would probably have cut the session short if it hadn't eased off. I think I was running alright but given the circumstances it was hard to tell. Difficult to tease apart tiredness and coldness. Hamstrings definitely did some work. Tired at the end but by no means burst.

Same out and back afterwards, stopped it at 15' because the cool part of cool down was getting out of hand.

Running (Easy + SVs) 1:10:00 [2] 13.7 km (5:07 / km) +140m 4:52 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Jogging along alright today. First few speed variations were on slightly more technical trails, then on undulating fireroads. Nice to have some variation, legs felt fine on all of them. Left glute maybe a little bit knotty in the last little bit, got on the leg swings afterwards to try and loosen up.

Ran #everysinglestreet in Inshriach after the speed variations. It took 3 and a half minutes. Ricky's a mug, he should have moved somewhere smaller.

6 strides. Better than yesterday. No problems apart from the slight glute tightness.

9 AM

Running (Easy ) 1:00:00 [2] 10.8 km (5:33 / km) +140m 5:13 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Run round the woods before breakfast and the impending apocalypse which Storm Brendan, a name to fill anyone with fear, is due to deliver. Legs a little tired after the last couple of days but nothing drastic. Arches of the feet improved since yesterday, though the sore spot under the ball of the left foot is proving irritatingly persistent.

6 strides. Initially shite, steadily improving.

Running (Specific Moderation) 2:00:00 [3] 24.1 km (4:59 / km) +253m 4:44 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Altra King MT (green)

Sleety, shite and windy up high this morning so I opted to just run from the house. Means I can write this from the sofa watching Guys and Dolls, rather than cycling home from the lodge or mooching about waiting for a lift.

Mix of fireroads, chewed up forestry stuff, decent trails and a bit of rooty singletrack, a mile or so of tarmac mixed in, out around Uath Lochans. Carried a pretty good approximation of LM42 kit. Ate 6 dates, 2 gels and a 200cal bottle of Tailwind.

Arches of both feet are pretty tender today. They must've been doing overtime with all the slithering around yesterday. Felt good the first hour, hour and a half, a few things starting to tire in the final quarter. Hamstrings initially, then various bits on the left side taking it in turns to get grizzly. Nothing bad though, don't think the pace dropped off at all.
