Running race (Devil's Burdens Leg 3) 55:52 [4] 12.0 km (4:39 / km) +325m 4:06 / km
shoes: Altra King MT (red)

Thoroughly failed to cover myself in glory here.

6am alarm was a shitter. Down to Fife in plenty time to stand around and get cold for a few hours. A few k warm up with Rob and Ryan and Shaun on his cool down. Due to an extraordinary feat of organisation, 2 of our 4 legs began with relavent runners in portaloos. I was one of those runners. Still, I lost us less time than the Shettleston guy who was AWOL for a couple of minutes.

Up the road then the trail by the Maspie burn, going hard and giving monosyllabic replies to Rob's chattiness. Rough ground then mega head wind over to West Lomond. Rob's an excellent runner but a shite wind break. I started to get a bit of pain just under the right side of my rib cage. A bit high to be a stitch but eventually it turned into one. A brief reprieve contouring on shitty ground, then into the woods and onto a forestry track where it got really bad. Legs were good but didn't feel like I could push any harder or my guts would blow up. Got pretty acute at one point, I was breathing like a dying dinosaur. It eased off the last k or two so I could run a little harder while Rob jogged along admiring the scenery.

I think the stitch was effort related, rather than food related. I only had a 200cal bottle of tailwind between breakfast at the back of 6 and starting. Should've put a few more rocks in Rob's bag.

Foot didn't really bother my. Low right leg had been tight last night and in the morning but it was fine.

Feeling a little flat today. Run was fine though. Foot no worse than it's been and no other niggles. 6 hill sprints were pretty good.

Running (Moderate) 1:00:00 [3] 13.6 km (4:25 / km) +110m 4:14 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Feeling a little stiff after yesterday. Part workout, maybe part legs getting used to the bike commute again. Felt like I was working reasonably hard for most of this, though I didn't tire particularly and there were no particular niggles. 6 strides on the road were decent.

Suunto 9 is so far failing to cover itself in glory, today's numbers are partial guesstimates.

Note

Time got away from me a bit today (I fucking around) and I stopped on my ride to work to chat to Barry, so not much time for the gym. Rattled through some of the big hitters then got the bonus of hefting a bunch of kegs around.
Pull ups
Split squats 7.5kg
Lateral band walk in squat
Hamstring curls
Swiss ball dead bug

Running (Fartlek) 34:00 [4] 8.0 km (4:15 / km)
shoes: Altra Golden Spikes

I've been waking up early this week, I don't know why.

Cycled to Feshiebrige then jogged down to the shinty pitch. Did a lap or two in the King MTs, incorporating some strides before changing into spikes. A few minutes easy and some strides in those before getting into the session. 12x 1' w/ 1' roll-on. Maybe a bit quick on the first couple before settling down. I might have gone slightly slow on the reps and slightly fast on the intervals, but the jist was about right. A little tricky to guage with a headwind on one side and tailwind on the other. Thought I'd set my watch up to do the reps but apparently not.

Felt alright. Right glute a bit knotty but no niggles. A few easy laps in spikes afterwards before changing again, jogging back to my bike and riding home.

Running (Easy + SVs) 1:10:00 [2] 13.2 km (5:18 / km) +112m 5:05 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Altra King MT (green)

Still some soreness lingering, mostly in the quads, but improved since yesterday. Ran out and back and out and back and out again and back again on sled dog avoidance. Legs got going after the first couple of kilometres then felt pretty decent despite the tenderness. 8 speed variations, a nice mix of up and down and flat, some smoother some a little technical. All fine, felt good.

6 strides. Better than yesterday, each marginally longer than the last.
3 PM

Note

First ride to work on the gravel bike. Takes a little longer but man it's ace! Gym session was good.
Hamstring curls
Single leg arabesque
Lateral band walk in squat
Dead big Swiss ball
Adductor side plank
Side plank knee to chest
Pull ups
Split squats (Moved up to 7.5kg dumbbells so kept sets short)

A little stretching after then got my Glencoe entry in.

Note

Gym pushed back to tomorrow when I'll be less sore and to allow for bicycle tinker time. I think, or at least hope, that the tubeless saga may be at an end!

Running (Easy ) 1:01:00 [2] 10.7 km (5:42 / km) +120m 5:24 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Feeling the last couple of days. No specific niggles, just a little sore and a little tight. Kept it nice and easy, plodding along. Almost skipped strides but did 6 and they were weren't as dreadful as I thought they'd be. Probably a little slower and shorter than usual. A little gentle stretching back in the house.

Running (Specific Endurance) 3:00:00 [3] 28.0 km (6:26 / km) +1229m 5:16 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: La Sportiva Akasha

Up down and all around Meall a' Bhuachaille. Hadn't been up since the race, nice to check it's still there.

Cold and windy enough to count as weather, but fairly benign for the time of year. Only a little snow/ice on the trails towards the top. Pack a piece heavier than it'll be for LM42. Not too tired after yesterday. Legs feel like they've not done much grinding up longer climbs with a pack on lately, mostly because they haven't, but overall I felt fine. Nice to be back on hillier and more technical terrain. Last half hour was on flatter fireroads, working suitably hard to keep the pace reasonable.

6 dates, 3 gels, 300cal of Tailwind and 500ml of water.
