Cycling 1:09:00 [4] 33.71 km (2:03 / km) +280m 1:58 / km

British MTBO long champs at Devilla - 2nd

Lots of fast fire roads, nothing too hilly but a few humps and bumps. Definitely missed a few of the best route choices but overall went fine. Shot past the wee path to 2 and took me a while to realise. Started going to 7 before 3 (classic me) which was frustrating to lose so much time early on. Then turned off too early up the non-existent path like everyone else on the way to 3. After that was pretty smooth sailing and just remembering to drink and fuel enough, dextrose tablets working well. Some really quite technical flat trails which were hard going, a lot of unclipping, pushing, and clipping back in which wasted so much time cos I’m shit at it. Especially with one sided road cleats. Went along a horrifically un-rideable trail to the 2nd last control with billions of fallen trees across it. Was getting properly chopped and cut up by the gorse, fallen trees, and my pedals whilst trying to rush and get it over with. Should have just given up trying to ride and push all the way, but kept getting on and off in the hope that the trail would turn nice. Seems like most people did exactly the same and got equally as angry in the process. Last control and finish were in the police college grounds and like yesterday, couldn’t understand the mix of urban mapping so just picked a path and hoped it went the right way, not sure if you’re allowed on grassy areas in mtbo but I did anyway.

Overall, fun weekend and nice to do something different. Luke had a stormer on the Long and came 2nd, just a couple mins down on the main GB guy. Think he’s quite keen to do more mtbo, definitely plays to his strengths (fast riding and easy nav) but think I like my orienteering and mountain biking separate.

Jill’s s&c class, with a focus of glutes and hips. Good fun and a good mix of exercises, will definitely go back.
