First ever saturday session at Churchill - just as brutal as rumoured

800, mile, 3x800, 3x600, 6x200

First 800 was meant to be a mile but obvs didn't warm up right as knee went off weird, and skipped a 600 for a similar strain. Otherwise felt unfit in the heat, but good to be running these tough sessions

Very chilled Grantchester, feeling virtuous after some heavy recruitment work for a new Harey.

Squash 1:30:00 [3]

More squash. Thought I'd binned it from a 2-1 lead when he got to 9-5 in the final game, but pulled out 7 rather nice consecutive winners to rescue the match and slightly annoy Calum. Job done and the record stands at WWW :)

Not sure I'm really cut out for this track nonsense. Totally misjudged the importance of a quick start and spent a long time tripping on the heels of the back third of a 28 man (actually mostly girls, mostly younger than me... oops) race. After the panic of trying to find some space to run/dispense of my dignity in, started to fall behind sub-10 pace. Didn't really react to this and left myself too much to do in the last 1000.

Track spikes and experience would have helped and probably pushed me under 10, but really I should be hoping to go a lot faster than that. Yet another demonstration of my lack of fitness.

Note
(rest day)

Bit of an odd day not sure whether its worth tapering for tomorrow when I'm so unfit anyway, but session seemed like a bad idea. Lie-in plus procrastination makes the decision to take a rest day easier

S&C 1:00:00 [3]

Haries s+c - forgot how good these sessions are, almost worth the early morning. Mostly just learning the exercises this week, but still got a few burns. Focus on stability this term which, if genetics are anything to go by, might be quite a good idea.
3 PM

Running (out of date) 1:08:00 [3] 15.0 km (4:32 / km) +50m 4:28 / km
shoes: Asics GT 1000 6 (heavies)

Hill run with Fiona

Missed a lot of garminage, but otherwise felt good. Pretty unfit but gotta start the recovery somewhere :/

To be honest I've been looking froward to getting this race out of the way, but courtesy of Bigby's hype playlist I was quite pumped by the time I started, and very happy to be error-free if a little on the slow side for the first half. Then ran to a pit and didn't look at the control at the bottom of it and headless chickened for 6 minutes. Good run ruined, but had a lot of fun and still probably better than most of my selection races. Can focus on getting fit again now.
