Aside from the ski trail, the only tracks were my own.

All but one of my months on AP has more time training than February '08. The distance covered in the month was so poor, less than 44 miles. However, this month I had the most time at race effort since the knee collapsed for good in August.

I ran the first (flatter) loop in 39:53. There must have been something in my left sock: a blister on my big toe, top right of nail.

The past three winters I finished third in the Mad Trapper snowshoe racing series. What is the impact of my crap knee? This year I'm last (eighth of eight) in the race series.

Ken, thanks for the company!

There must have been a hundred snowshoers out on the Wolf loop, three were even running. Wearing parka & pack, this was just a day of plodding at altitude. I've never seen snow cover so good on that trail - no bare rock and no flooding. I even met three skiiers heading out to Tawadina. For 21:40, I checked out manicured ski trail #1. I snuck back on Wolf just as first skiier arrived.

On the way to and from Deep River, I saw the hi-rail truck inspecting the Chalk River sub.

This was a perfect course using wide groomed skate-ski trails and unused ski trails. Leaving my second control #7, I was off 180° and that cost me 30 seconds. From #6 to #8, I went 40m through real snow. I backtracked my own tracks from #11 to #10 and #10 to #12. I was the first one of skiiers and snowshoers to hit the trail which had 208, 209 and 225.

My pace was much slower on the ski-O course because I had promised not to step on ski tracks. In the woods on the narrowest ski trails, the snow parallel to the ski tracks was DEEP. Without intending to, I took my earlier score-O route to control #1. I'm sure this was a longer choice but there was no clear interesection of the backwoods trail with the hydro-electric corridor. Heading N to #5, I took the middle trail and cut overland for 20m, as had some skiiers. Heading off the skate-ski trail to #6, I went E at curve through snow. No skiiers could have tried that through the green.

I had promised volunteers that I would be back in 60 minutes, so I left #7 for finish via #10 and #11.

I ran fast, well and hard; pushing myself to the limit and over the limit, blowing the last control.

The map is bounded by the Deux Montagnes sub (CN) on the north and the Doney spur on the south. En route to the event, I saw a rail machine cleaning the snow off a portion of the Doney spur that crosses Hymus.
