Running 1:34:38 [3] 15.9 km (5:57 / km)
(injured) shoes: adidas Response Trail XII 0199

From the hill north of Carbonear, I counted four icebergs.

In the run past Dildo gut, I saw kids swimming. I attempted 25k race pace (7:50/mile) on the way back but the head wind sure prevented that. I had been unable to recreate the trauma to my right knee until back at Reid's Lane I had to race uphill Dot's Lewis in a slow-moving truck full of wood.

It's been years since I ran 68k in one week.

Note
(injured)

I explored the Broad Cove branch of the Reid Newfoundland railway between the barrens highway (route 73) and Broad Cove junction. A truck could easily drive this route. I drove 3.7k then walked another 4.3k and back again. I gathered some fish-plate bolts but didn't notice the headless spike at the car until after walking 86 minutes. This branch was abandoned around 1912 and the bolts are identical to those gathered on the later and last generation of the branch (1915-1938).

I saw icebergs in Harbour Grace.

Did my physio workouts.

Running 52:02 [3] 6.0 mi (8:40 / mi)
slept:9.9 (injured) shoes: adidas Response Trail XII 0199

After breakfast at Cora's and a drive 'round Signal Hill and the Battery, Nana got away on Tuesday. Due to maintenance and then fog, Nielle's flight didn't leave 'til Wednesday.

Since the marathon, the burning in my left knee has been worse than usual. Because of my right knee problems on Sunday, I'm again following the patellofemoral pain syndrome physiotherapy. It's no wonder that I stopped, considering the exercises take 30 minutes. Preparing for the 25k in Miquelon, I'll do the exercises twice daily.

My right knee gave me no problems in today's run: nice ladder 8:56 8:29 8:25 7:56 8:18 9:56. Perhaps it will only act up after 22k of running.

My race crew wisely had me soak my legs in Healeys Pond after the event. Thanks to M & M!!!

After 22k my right knee (my good knee) would pop right out of socket and cause me to walk. Eventually I figured out that a high-step stride kept me running. I had to focus on running over imaginary rocks and roots. Using orienteering as training for road racing has its inadequacies.

I add another marathon to the collection: MA, NH, NL, NY, ON and ITA.
