I SHOULD NOT RUN!
If I want to be able to walk five years from now, I need to consider surgery: at least a half-knee replacement and possibly something as radical as tibia realignment.
The surgeon says I must stop running and take up other activities such as biking and swimming. When I explained that I can't get out of the saddle on a bike and I don't have enough strength on the left side to kick a straight swim, the surgeon offered no solution but then he's a surgeon, not a trainer. His job is to sell me on surgery and I'm not yet buying. The surgeon would not tell me what I can expect next if I don't take the surgery. Apparently, I should see him again in nine months.
I did finally see the MRI. Wow! I have absolutely no cartilage on the medial side of the knee and a big healthy juicy disk of meniscus on the lateral side. I also saw that the fluid pushed back in to a cyst behind the knee was already visible in September.
I would require an x-ray before surgery. I also suspect - that if don't put my leg up and sit on the couch for the coming decades - I will need a newer MRI.
I had my suspicions about this day early on. On my way to the toilet I walked through cat puke. I then went to my inventory of retired running shoes to find something for street wear. I once had ten or twelve pairs of retired runners awaiting their second lives as walking shoes. That inventory is gone. It's for real. I am no longer a runner.
