snowshoe orienteering (Kingsmere Nov 07) 1:14:03 [3]*** 5.37 km (13:47 / km) +60m 13:04 / km
ahr:137 max:160 9c slept:8.0 shoes: Atlas 1025
controls 9-1

The faster ground speed and the higher heart rate attest to great conditions for snowshoeing: the hard crust kept me afloat above the snow and the lower temperatures kept the pools of meltwater frozen. Ponds and lakes were still open water. I raced the last leg near maximum heart rate and got a pace of 9:00/km.

I gained time taking beaver dam farther W of #7. I now see how close my previous misses were finding #3. On the map there is a pond w/ a ruin to the S (a ruin I've still not found). At that pond I previously missed shooting N, drifting S to nasty cliffs and ravine.

At many points I followed my own elephant tracks, allowing for a good workout. I expect my tracks to be long gone by the time I get back there. Some crazy back-woods skiier was playing on some of my elephant tracks.

There was too much meltwater beneath the snow on the track. I hope things freeze over before I head for the Gatineau.
