Running warm up/down 40:00 [3] 5.11 km (7:50 / km)
slept:4.9 shoes: ASICS Gel-Kahana

After missing out the past two years, I finally got to the sprint series finals. It was awesome fun and entertaining. It seemed to rain contiuously except while I was actually racing.

I wasn't happy with my ranking but I was very happy with my speed in the preliminary sprint. Remember that the orienteering speed is not normal distance but the distance a bird would directly fly while I'm running around and through field and forest.

I finished (age group) tenth in the preliminary. I don't understand how I also finished tenth in the three-map final in which I made many, many mistakes (yet to be documented). Perhaps there were only ten runners in my age group...haha.

With a rank of 729th out of 868 men in the North American sprint series, I won't be starting too early in the series semi-final on Friday. The first ranked run first.

I'm not surprised that the tape is already missing from high traffic spots, #3 (203) and #16 (210). However, these are such obvious features (that even I wouldn't miss them) and I will not reinstall flagging tape.

Now it's time to heal before the champs.

Lost Lucy signs have come down so I can only hope that she was found well.

My much too swampy walking shoes are in the garbage. I must find some shoes this weekend.

Flags will stay up on this course to be used for training. It's very much a runner's map. Translation: I over ran far too many targets. I'll put race comments in my splits.

I went back and ran the long intermediate which will also be left flagged for training. Before next season, I'll make sure that the tape is removed.

I stayed in the forest until 17h30 hoping to stumble upon Lucy the lost Labrador. Sadly, it didn't happen.

I guess I didn't have much left in the tank for this one. I'm thankful that the volunteers let me start late. Comments are in my splits.

I'm covered in blister and bruises which will probably still be there at next week's North American championships.

Today I startled the same poor porcupine that I stumbled upon two weeks ago. In a race with a snail and a clam, I'm pretty sure the porcupine loses.

Pat passed away yesterday. I'm really sorry that I didn't get her to train me.
