Note
(rest day)

I failed in my objective to place top ten in the score-O series. However, I did meet my other goal: to be fully trained (through orienteering) for the 15k road race next week. By far, June was my biggest month of training since the surgical removal in December.

It's taper time.

Note

Even with my new method of control-card punching (pinned to my shirt, no map case or map to punch through), I was underscored one punch in the published results. However, Colin verified the correct number.

My performance was so poor that the final race was irrelevant anyway. I ended up 17 (of 28 who actually completed at least four events) in the series, having peaked at 14th place.

I would like to blame my knee but I know the real issues were all navigational.

It looks like I did not improve any with the last of five score-Os. Only one's best four races would count. This was the first summer that I failed to make the top ten.

I beat everyone to 18 but then missed 5 and then missed 25 and then went back for both of them. I came within 20 metres of 16 but couldn't see it for minutes. I came within 80 metres of 2 and went back thinking I'd gone too far. D'oh!

I could have run straighter to 17 but everything was on through 12 where I figured I had time for as many as three more controls on the east side of the map. I had saved 10 for the run home. I never found 11 even and time ran out before we were even back past 17.

Thank you John for my first real orienteering since last October.
