Note

I took my black toenail to local clinic but doctor said blood was so diffused already that drilling would relieve little. He did wave an invisible magic wand over my toe so that the nail would not fall off. I was pleased, in and out in only 50 minutes and that was my first ever visit.

Running 1:35:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:55 / km)

Toe nail is black, raised and sore, before my run today and before the Boilermaker road race. Oh bother.

Running 58:30 [3] 9.0 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: New Balance MT610BB3

Ran from Rod's place, I was completely exhausted by his pace until we hit wooded trails and I increased his pace. It really is all in my head. Even if technical trail running slowed Rod's pace, the same trail running increased my pace.

Just this week, my replacement toenail dating back to last Boilermaker finished growing in. Now I've gone and again raised that nail which is sore and starting to discolor. It's likely sore from taking stick straight on in woods last night and/or the new shoes were too tight. I finally had to relace shoes before tonight's group run.

orienteering race (Monk Environmental Park) 1:05:00 [3] *** 4.47 km (14:32 / km) +30m 14:04 / km
15c shoes: New Balance 410

14, 15, 9, 1, 7, 13, 2, 3, 10, R2, 6, 4, R1, 5, 20
with handicap 50.7% 46/58

I ran 100m beyond 10 before catching myself. That should have set me up well for R2 but I drifted right, convinced myself hilltop control was missing, headed west to 6 and asked runner about R2 while 5m from R2, d'oh. I was now not running far enough for any controls. I looked for 4 too soon. I expected swamp to be wetter and crossed and revisited 3 before S to R1. Run to 5 seemed really long and I had drifted left. Time was up and I put head down for straight run E through woods to F. Somehow I drifted significantly left and revisited 1. This wasn't all bad as I now had first trail option and picked up 20 for bonus.

As poor as my results were, I won't be changing strategy. I'm using the score-O for longer run training.

One of my control punches was missed by the official scorer but that's not going to make any difference in the end, especially because I'm in Calgary for the final event.

I'm telling myself it was a positive thing to miss my last running workout. I had income to earn. I had legs to rest. Little did I know that I would be out in the woods another >2h.

That was my first time on that map. Next time I wear sunscreen.
