This was actually a run between the doctors at the sports medicine clinic and the doctors at the family health unit. Cortisone shot was delayed so that family doctors could confirm that rash was not varicella. The contact dermatitis will treated with 5 days of prednisone and hydroxyzine hydrochloride. I will back this as poison ivy exposure though I have no idea when there was plant contact.

Rash broke out last Tuesday and we assumed it was poison ivy though there was no explanation for my contact with the plant. We now think it is something else like shingles. When I see the sports medicine clinic tomorrow for the cortisone shot, we'll see if the doctors there have experience with the rash.
