Snowshoeing 58:00 2.25 km (25:47 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Zoom Vomero 10
For two caches that were about 45 metres from trail, I had no choice but to strap on a pair of traditional teardrop wooden snowshoes. It has been decades since I wore such monsters. However, I got the flotation I needed over the deep snow. I do not remember any of the traditional methodology. There is no backing up. There was one time that flotation gave out. I crashed into the deep snow face first and returning to vertical took forever. There are good reasons for not using these things. Even after finding my rhythm, there is no way to protect my uncovered ankle from being hit by the unforgiving wooden frame of the opposite snowshoe.
After 1k from the start, I realised that I could use trail for returning. Rather than carry the snowshoes, I decided to pack down the trail for other users.
