Hike (Hike) 2:04:48 [2] 6.82 km (18:18 / km) +562m 12:58 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Feeling pretty rubbish spent most of day sleeping really not up for much I know I should have gone further but quite light headed and low on energy and motivation. Legs seem in good nick though! Don’t think I was running fast enough to do any damage so that’s good. Went up that 30 meter ladder near the top of the main climb which was quite fun. Went up a bit further nearly to the top of cable car then down the ski slope, thinking of doing the 800m easy climb up it. Met Billy cleaning his bisse again said he’d be up for a run tomorrow so a motivation to get up tomorrow morning.

Trail run (Warm up) 22:25 [2] 4.46 km (5:02 / km) +41m 4:48 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Out and back along the bisse with drills and strides. Feeling fairly good!
3 PM

Trail run (Tour des Alpages ) 1:15:03 [4] 16.67 km (4:30 / km) +574m 3:50 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Didn’t go with it at the start, couldn’t help but laugh at Euan taking it out and leading. Kept it at an easy rhythm on the climb and a few people came back to me but started having stomach cramps just where it starts to ease up at the first flat bit, found that I couldn’t run on the flat at all, steep uphill/downhill seemed okay got a bit of a headache along the top bit and breathing wasn’t quite right had a strange tightness in my chest and stomach but still passing a few people including Euan who I think dropped out shortly after that. Steep runnable descents felt okay could let my legs go a bit on them but when it kicked up a little bit into any kind of climb I was completely stuffed and had to walk legs not wanting to work at all on flat or up hill on the last 7 kilometres and really struggled along the bisse but just kept shuffling along. Quite annoying because I knew I went off easy, body not up for much at the moment. Once on the downhill road able to flow down a bit better to the finish. Bit of a suffer fest reckon I did alright to keep moving and finish. Was in quite a negative head space towards the end, quite comforting knowing Euan suffered as well though I was a little worried about him when he didn’t finish. Chuffed for Max he had a good one.
Tiredness hit me hard once I stopped, no chance of a warm down just about able to walk back to apartment. Fell asleep in the bath. Ate all the food I had then went to the race dinner. Had perked up a bit by then.
Don’t think these ferritin sulphate tablets are doing the trick. Will try get my hands on that ferrograd c when I can this is gone on a long time now. Reckon next weekends uphill only will be okay but I think Thyon will have to be run very very slowly.

Trail run (60’ easy + strides) 57:22 [2] 11.68 km (4:55 / km) +86m 4:44 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Out and backs along the flattest part of the bisse with strides moving fairly well. Getting out of breath a bit more than I’d like but otherwise fine. Had a dip in the bisse to wash, getting a bit stinky.
Met Anita and went to my race apartment which is very very nice!

After moving stuff up and putting up tent in new spot went to Tourist office to charge phone and watch before doing the run out and back along the bisse a few times with strides at the end feeling fairly good.

Hike (Walk from tent to Anzère ) 26:28 [2] 1.76 km (15:02 / km) +200m 9:35 / km
shoes: #2 XA Elevate

Wanted to see how far from tent to Anzère was.

Trail run (60’ easy) 1:02:50 [2] 10.79 km (5:49 / km) +400m 4:55 / km
shoes: #2 XA Elevate

Tried to follow the race route out backwards to try and remind myself of what it was like in final few kilometres but went I bit the wrong way but got a general feel for it. Bumped into guy who was completely lost so jogged with him to show him the back to Anzère and then bumped into Billy Burns cleaning his bisse had a good chat and he showed me his house and made me spaghetti and tomatoes and had a good chin wag. Pretty cool house with great view. Some great stories!
4 PM

Hike (Hike ) 1:44:47 [2] 7.52 km (13:56 / km) +441m 10:46 / km
shoes: #2 XA Elevate

Little hike with Billy over first bit of the course to see the climb then cut down back to Anzère to get food from the shop. Billy showed me he’s camped in the past just down the bisse from the cable car so will move stuff there tomorrow to save slogging everything up to close to the race. Pretty awesome day.

Trail run (3 x 7’ up/2’30’’fastdown) 52:00 intensity: (44:00 @2) + (8:00 @4) 9.48 km (5:29 / km) +573m 4:13 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Jog from chalet in Vercorin to where I did the session last time. Feeling pretty rough this morning and not moving easily even when just warming up. Made the down hill 2’30’’ between the 7’ easy climb so hopefully wouldn’t get as sore afterwards as last time. Only ended up doing 3 instead of 4 as just didn’t feel right at all. And did a warm down jog around the 3km loop which seemed to help a little.
2 PM

Hike (Hike ) 2:00:00 [2] 8.47 km (14:10 / km) +396m 11:29 / km
shoes: #2 XA Elevate

Got the bus to Le Flans to look for the “campsite” ended up walking around a fair bit with all my stuff so thought I might as well record it as a hike. Dumped by bags in the forest a bit down from Anzère and went to buy food from the supermarket in Anzère and then went back and set up tent in a secluded area just off from the path in a fairly decent spot.

Trail run (800m easy climb) 54:17 [3] 8.44 km (6:26 / km) +981m 4:04 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Up from Vercorin aiming to do the same route I hiked on the first day here but somehow must have missed a turnoff as ended up round the back of the mountain. Very nice trail so just kept on climbing felt pretty good.
6 PM

Hike (Hike ) 1:16:00 [2] 9.59 km (7:55 / km) +264m 6:58 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Stopped running at a nice little lake and stopped to try and get a sense of where I was. Hiked up for a bit and realised I was a wee bit higher up than Cret du Midi so went up a bit to try and find the path around and down La Brinta then headed back to Vercorin from there. Cool little outing.
