Hike (Hike ) 5:35:22 [2] 32.36 km (10:22 / km) +2112m 7:49 / km
shoes: #2 XA Elevate

Got the bus Sierre, Bois-de-Finges and started hiking up from where the road meets the trail, got to Chandolin after 1 hour 50 and then stopped at the Tignousa restaurant after 2 hour 30 ish for a while and had a fairly big meal there. Can’t believe how fast people run this thing. Carried on walking with two Swiss guys from there to Zinal which was cool. Legs pretty tired. Can’t quite understand how people can do that decent that fast without stacking it at the end of the race. Looks absolutely brutal, hard enough hiking it!

Up to Cabin Tracuit from Zinal pretty steep going but felt awesome, rain came in after 63’ but was just next to a little shelter so waited a few minutes for it to pass and stayed dry. Got to Tracuit in 1 hour 50 and spent a while inside had some mint tea and a piece of pair cake which was lovely. Down and past Roc de La Vash and Lac d’Arpietttaz which is really beautiful and up to Cabane du Mountet, striating drizzling in the way up and ate my peanut butter, banana, jam sandwiches. Some hikers told me to think about turning back, I considered it but the rain was only very light and never got any worse and the path was never to technical and I still felt awesome! The guy in the cabin hadn’t spoken to anyone all day so was very happy to see me and gave me an orange and a snickers and some banana cake really nice dude! Fun coming back down. Actually quite missed the rain felt a bit like home but hoping it doesn’t stay around to long will have washing to dry. Jogged the last bit to the campsite and legs still feeling pretty good. Ate all my food and had a big salad with walnuts and some weird brown bread at the restaurant.

Trail run (80’ easy/fast downhill ) 1:20:21 [2] 14.55 km (5:31 / km) +595m 4:35 / km
shoes: #2 S-lab Ultra 2

From campsite to Cab Petite Mount with a few little diversions to look at some other paths. Quite quick coming down on runnable downhill, still cautious on anything steep and loose.

Apparently slept through the storm last night but watched some crazy silent lightning while going for a wee at about 3am. Very nice here, cool during the night as well but still pretty hot in the day though. Met some people doing big walk from Chamonix to Zermatt they gave me noodles they didn’t want to carry which was nice!

From bottom of cable car up out of Anzère to a flatter section out and back. Feeling okay still quite tired. Off to Zinal this afternoon.

Noticing knees clicking and a little bit sore under knee cap towards outside on both knees, had it a little bit last time did downhills, goes away overnight but not pleasant getting up after sitting down for a while
1 PM

Trail run (3x7’easyup/fastdown ) 54:52 [3] 9.5 km (5:47 / km) +494m 4:35 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Along the bisse to a good climb. Only managed 3 again. I didn’t have the session on my watch this time so was really just guessing times and using the same places as the start and finish points. I don’t think I’m a fan of this session felt like I was breaking more on each downhill, the first reps always seem to be the best/most relaxed down hill then it just feels pretty brutal and am terrified to destroy more red blood in my feet. Called it after 3 just wasn’t sure it was doing legs or confidence any good. Back along the bisse and stopped at the fountain. Had a wash, getting used to the cold temperature of the bisse now can stay in it for a fair few minutes now. Felt good to get out the heat.

Trail run (800m easy climb) 41:39 [3] 3.94 km (10:34 / km) +778m 5:19 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Followed Billy up to the top of cable car from Anzere he was fast walking a fair bit and slowed the pace whenever he heard me breathing to heavily really good quality run I think felt pretty good.
Went for a shower at his afterwards again and walked back to the tent as a warm down.

Monday Jul 22 #

11 AM

Trail run (80’ easy ) 1:28:42 [2] 17.4 km (5:06 / km) +208m 4:49 / km
shoes: Sense ride 2

Billy took us along the last bit of the race along the bisse and then up through the tunnels to the lake proper stunning scenery really really nice run, had to let him go ahead a few times to keep the intensity down but he always waited. Had a shower and some pasta and tomato’s at his place which was very nice. Proper nice chilled out day.
Was feeling pretty tired towards the end of the run and breathing heavily on any climbs but it was a really nice run. Felt better once I stopped.
