60 Minutes Moderate Run 55:04 [3] 5.2 mi (10:35 / mi) +19m 10:28 / mi
slept:8.0

60 minutes Moderate Run along the canal at Stone. This is a mixture of grass, mud, hard trail and towpath.

Garmin took at least 5 minutes to detect a signal. Started off with a warm up (walking) then eased into the run until I reached a steady pace - similar to the pacing I used in Sunday's Wirral Way Trail Half Marathon.

Eased back for the last mile then followed this with light jogging and walking to cool down.

Around 5.5 miles in total.
7 PM

Nordic Walking 50:40 [1] 3.04 mi (16:38 / mi) +73m 15:29 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Saucony Triumph

Did 3 miles Nordic Walking as part of the #1000miles walking challenge.

A cold and foggy night for this plus a frost was starting to form so didn't stay out that long.

Easy paced Regeneration Run.

No niggles - even after Sunday's race.

7 PM

Strength & Conditioning 1:00:00 [2]
slept:8.0

First strength & conditioning session since Xmas.

I eased back into this so dropped the weights down . Did hip and glute activation work, bear crawls, mountain climbers etc.

Then mobility work and core.

Regeneration 59:10 [1] 3.66 mi (16:10 / mi) +35m 15:42 / mi
slept:10.0 shoes: Saucony Triumph

I went for a post-race sports massage this lunchtime then decided to try out my new pair of Saucony Triumph shoes on a very easy walk/run tonight. I did this whilst accompanying a friend of mine (new runner) so we took it very easy as in 12 min/miling or slower.

No strain at all on the body (combination of running and walking).

Followed it with a cool down walk so 4 miles in total.

Unspecified (Wirral Trail Half Mara) 2:08:55 [2] 13.09 mi (9:51 / mi) +62m 9:42 / mi
slept:7.0 shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

The Wirral Trail Half Marathon.

My Garmin shows 2:08 though the official results show 2:10. My time is nothing spectacular but I was treating this as a long run and practice for my ultras.

I loved this race! Felt strong and comfortable from the start and ran it as if I were doing a Steady Run. Faster than regeneration and easy runs. I started off slowly then eased into the run, thinking along the lines of negative splits although I may have done this the other way around. I focused on form, cadence and as smooth action.

I wanted to stay under 10 min/miling - ideally 9.30 or less but that will require more work. However, I wasn't disappointed with my performance as it is the start of the race season.

No twinges at all! Nothing throughout the race even though it was on a hard surface.

It was one of those days when you have a good run/race and enjoy it.
12 PM

Nordic Walking 1:02:51 [1] 4.01 mi (15:41 / mi) +3m 15:39 / mi
slept:7.0 shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 290

I decided to drive 10 minutes up the coast to West Kirby and do a recovery walk. Took my Nordic poles with me and completed 4 miles along the promenade and the surrounding area. Got plenty of sea air!
