Orienteering Event (White Rose Long) 52:32 [4] *** 5.42 km (9:42 / km) +55m 9:13 / km

Rubbish nights sleep. Again very hot and sunny weather. Not sure about my route to #1 - found the control alright but don't know if there was a quicker route. Definitely took a bad route to #2 as I got confused with all the paths and headed up a parallel one to the one I wanted - realised and kept going but meant I had to use some small paths that were slow to run along (and there was a massive ant hill in the middle of one which took some negotiating). Then I found the mapping of rough open and clearings a bit hard to get into so walked the last part of the leg. 3-7 were alright on the whole but #8 was awful. Wasted about 4 minutes going through the thickest green on the map and had no idea how to get out. I missed the clearing leading straight to the control by only 15 metres. Spent the next two controls pulling all the twigs and spiders out of my hair. Then to #11 I couldn't find the ride - I think as I had an early start the ride was there but under loads of bracken. Took a much slower route through the brashings instead and hit the track about 70m further up from the control.

Really hate ant hills and they were everywhere ...
Got pretty hot and sunny and felt a bit light-headed and not with it near the end. Went past #6 by a few metres before realising and leading everyone else into it. My split for #14 was really slow as the ride had really deep puddles along it and I kept having to go through the brashings instead.

Got 10/12 correct on course and both timed controls right.

Orienteering Event (White Rose Sprint) 22:17 [5] * 3.91 km (5:42 / km) +20m 5:33 / km

Got confused in circles of #7 and 9. Wasn't looking at the map properly for #12 so was on the wrong side of a small hill. Wasted quite a lot of time at #17 because the box took about 10 seconds to bleep. Again I didn't feel great on the way round (mainly towards the end).
About 20 degrees.

82% humidity apparently. With mum so kept waiting for her and walked up last stretch with her. Not sure why but breathing was really tight.

Ran into the wall and hit myself with my racket a few times which hurt but it was good fun.

Very humid. Had to stop at 10 gates; briefly at the top of a potato field as I couldn't find the path through it (found it in the end) and about half way round when I encountered a stretch of path covered in nettles. Had a headache for first 2km.
