Running (road+path) warm up/down 9:06 [2] 1.61 km (5:40 / km) +50m 4:54 / km

To the leg start - was too cautious re timings as it turned out and got there way too early. It was hard to know when the previous leg runners were going to come in so was just hanging around for quite a while, scared to go off running more in case they came in.

Running (mostly off-road) race 25:13 [5] 5.59 km (4:31 / km) +319m 3:31 / km

Devil's Burdens - Leg 4

Straight off up the path for a mostly uphill route to the first checkpoint. Started not very warmed up and so my breathing paid for it. Got a wee break at the first checkpoint as I waited in the queue for the puncher, then set off up the main hill towards East Lomond. Got into a good rhythm and with the wind helping from behind picked my way up to the summit at a good pace. Couldn't see the kite at the top for a few seconds before I found it hidden from the wind under a rock - bit of a faff here trying to unravel the punch card in the strong wind. Set off down the hill but instead of going to the right of the little bunch of trees as I had been was quickest to the next checkpoint, I went round the left as I saw some tape on my way down and was worried it had been marked down there. I lost some time doing this slightly less direct route. Punched, over the stile, then just taking the track all the way to the finish at a good pace, having fun on the flights of steps near the end. All in all a good blow out on the first hill race of the year, and great fun with the team!

Running (mostly off-road) warm up/down 16:32 [2] 2.36 km (7:01 / km) +85m 5:57 / km

Jog up and down the final part of the leg with KT.

Running (road) (Easy) 31:32 [2] 7.0 km (4:30 / km) +88m 4:14 / km

Back into the city after dropping the car off. Gale force winds and lashing rain in my face made this interesting. Legs feeling fine, right calf slightly seized up near the end though.

Running (road) (Easy) 28:54 [2] 6.8 km (4:15 / km) +74m 4:02 / km

Shake-out round the G.W. loop and then back up Morningside. Legs more awake than yesterday, and threw in some more strides at the end.

Running (mostly off-road) (Easy) 40:07 [2] 8.07 km (4:58 / km) +79m 4:44 / km

Easy pre-brekky with Sasha - legs felt a bit tired after yesterday's session but not too bad, and we chucked in a few strides at the end which lifted the legs a bit.

Running (road+path) (Fartlek) 1:11:14 [4] 18.09 km (3:56 / km) +87m 3:51 / km

20' WU ; 4x5'(3') ; 18' WD

Session around the Meadows on mixture of the tarmac and the trail. 5' rep pace got slightly quicker each one, and the steady 3' recoveries stayed fairly consistent. Felt better as the session went on too, and went by pretty quickly.

Running (road+path) (Easy) 59:10 [2] 13.3 km (4:27 / km) +171m 4:11 / km

Felt pretty lethargic and legs dead today. Perked up a bit towards the end.

Running (Hill Sprints) 11:40 [3] 2.27 km (5:08 / km)

8x15" hill sprints + WD

Anywhere was a headwind, so just tackled it up one of the steeper Bruntsfield paths. Felt pretty good after the first couple.

Running (mostly off-road) (Easy) 1:20:45 [2] 17.53 km (4:36 / km) +267m 4:17 / km

Up to B&B + a bit of Mortonhall. Run cut short due to a dog wiping me out when it ran through my legs from behind - hit a few things on the rocky icy path, the most significant being my left hip/glute which I couldn't move again properly for ages, having to hobble around for a while. Got back running at a bit of a limp and decided to cut the Mortonhall loop short and head back to be on the safe side. Other than that incident everything feeling relatively ok after yesterday.
