Orienteering race 2:57:41 [4] 15.4 km (11:32 / km) +753m 9:16 / km

Billygoat '79 reenactment at Mt. Tom. Buy this was HARD. Do I ever not enjoy orienteering? Of course it is always a pleasure to be out in the woods, and especially these days during the coronavirus lockdown. And it was a gorgeous day, around 60 degrees and sunny. So yes it was a pleasure. But by #11 or so I started thinking "am I actually enjoying this?" The climb from 8 all the way up to 11 was brutal, and to top it off the ground was just rocks everywhere. Getting to the finish was an act of sheer willpower...

Navigation felt off as well though I didn't loose too much time. For example going from 1 to 2 I somehow ended up on the road at the top of the hill, just sloppy work on the contours. To 12 I veered down the hillside too much. I know myself - if I don't fully focus in highly contoured terrain I tend to screw up...and today my focus wandered.

Anyway of course it was overall wonderful to be able to run this course, and many thanks to the organizers. I am impressed by the people who ran this course so fast on a 1970s map!

Mianus Park. 65 degrees, beautiful day. Legs felt like lead. Because of the wine and limoncello last night? Or because I am sitting still all day long, besides training?
Think I need to work more on leg strength, the Arc trainer, and interval training.

Took it very easy after yesterday's weird heart palpitations - my heart was racing at 100 to 120 until 10pm at night when I went to sleep. Really strange. I felt perfectly fine, just my heart racing for 4+ hours. I woke up at 2am and heart was back to normal, then struggled to sleep until the morning. Never experienced anything like that before.

So jogged at 6.5 miles/hour for most of this run, everything was fine including heart rate which was exactly normal for me. Who knows?

felt great the first 15-20 minutes, then suddenly tired and heart rate kept going to 185+. Odd, not sure watch captured it correctly but I felt strangely tired. Hope not the c-word, middle of the week I had an odd ache in my upper throat.
