Orienteering race 1:09:50 [4] 6.8 km (10:16 / km) +249m 8:41 / km

Gorgeous woods near Kent, CT. Drive up was memorable, Hausatonic river south of Kent, covered bridge, beautiful countryside. Nice day, 65 degrees.

Ran red, National Ranking Event event so competed in M45 and against M20, M35, M40, and F21. A whole troupe of 20-30 West Pointers were there, many of whom ran red also. Fast terrain with a decent amount of climb (240 meters over 6.8 kilometers), typical Connecticut woods but open and fast with little underbrush. Forest was sometimes faster than paths. No major mistakes, attackpoint reports 4 minutes lost but that includes 2 minutes to #2 which was just me going slow. My ankle was bothering me, I sped up a bit after that but still slow running. Did lose 2 minutes on #7 as I made a small parallel error coming out of #6 and was just sloppy. A little right on #10 but nothing major. Started off to the north from #11 as I so intently studied the route choice to #12 that I didn't pay attention to direction at first.

Running speed still needs to improve much, and not sure what is going on with my ankle/achilles tendon. Feels stiff and slightly achy at the beginning of runs and afterwards.

Very enjoyable indeed! Niels Lyng-Olsen did a fine job course setting, thank you!

Map and GPS (something weird happened to the GPS track from my Suunto watch, it only started at #8 even though most of the race distance was reported. Filled in the rest by hand):
