Note

MNOC-- Battle Creek

The wife, kids, neighbor and neighbor kids went to the event. The wife and kids had a good time. I am still waiting for the info from the neighbors. The one issue was my kids wanted to do the orange course but Steph did not want to take them on it. The kids need more practice looking at the map and using the compass. My oldest appearantly wanted to keep going in the wrong direction. He gets that from his old man. The wife commented that everyone was helpful at the event.

Adventure Race race (Red Wing-- Orienteering) 3:00:00 [4] 5.0 mi (36:00 / mi)
shoes: Nike Pegasus Trail

The first orienteering section was tough for some reason. It should have taken us only an hour and half. We went to CP1 no problems. CP2 we stumbled a little bit. CP3 we missed it several times. We kept going back to catching features and working back. We finally figured out that we had not gone far enough. Then on to CP4. We went past it by a ways. We went back and figure out we need to use the buildings. CP5 we were to low. It seperated a lot of teams. A lot of teams struggled with this section. I do not know if it was USGS or what.

Adventure Race race (Red Wing--BAck to the Sta) 30:00 [3] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Nike Pegasus Trail

Adventure Race race (Red Wing-- Bike 1) 4:30:00 [3] 40.0 mi (6:45 / mi)

We had a three mile mistake.

Adventure Race (Red Wing Orienteeirng 2) 30:00 [3] 1.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Nike Pegasus Trail

Use the time off the bike to eat and recover. We only hit one check point and came back before the cut-off. Time includes Transition.

This was our own fault for the earlier mistakes. But a few notes on this section,

-- TA appears to be marked incorrectly. I have checked with a few other teams and we are all in agreement.
-- CP 14 may have been placed wrong. We did not try for that one after talking to other teams on the trail.
-- Good place for a cut-off. Find what you can and start heading home. Anybody who left after the cutoff did not have a chance at the boats.

Adventure Race (Red Wing Bike 2) 2:00:00 [3] 10.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Include TA, Includes Flat Repair

Adventure Race (Red Wing Ropes) 2:00:00 [3]
